Ganesh Sharma, the prodigious composer and the creator of melodies of everlasting memories. Pick up any film done by him, any song created by him, and as you listen, and if you are not aware of the identity of the music director, you will surely wonder who would it be, the creator of such a lovely melody. Somehow, the combination of the tones, the octaves and the emphases make the tunes created by this hugely talented musician simply touch a very endearing nerve, and the heart simply wants to sing along with the flow of the song.
It is a wonder and a sad commentary on the system that works in the industry, that despite the wonderfully acknowledged music in the films that he has worked for, his career was limited to maybe about 25 films by this callous industry. There had been rumors that being the younger brother of Pyaarelal Sharma (of the Laxmikant-Pyaarelal team) actually worked to his disadvantage. And it is also said that he spent a lot of his time and talent behind the scenes in the L-P camp, creating many a wonderful melodies for which he was never acknowledged.
Remembering Ganesh today, on the anniversary of his passing away.
This song is from the 1973 film, ‘Ek Naari Do Roop’. Produced under the banner of Cooperative Pictures, Bombay, the film is directed by Madhusudan. The primary star cast of the film includes Shatrughan Sinha, Asha Sachdev, Lalita Kumari, Rashmi, Iftekhar, Madan Puri, Nadira, Roopesh Kumar, Chaman Puri, Malika, Sapru, Maruti, Kaajal, Mehmood Junior, Honey Chhaya etc. The five songs of this film are penned by Naqsh Lyallpuri and Asad Bhopali. This particular song is written by Naqsh Lyallpuri. The singing voice is that of Asha Bhonsle.
This film is already represented on this blog with the unforgettable Rafi Sb solo “Dil Ka Soona Saaz Taraana Dhoondegaa”. Here is another signature creation by Ganesh – a flowing lilting melody of a young heart at the threshold of youth, still trying to feel the childhood just once again. Listen to this wonderful creation and enjoy.
