on:“Gumnaam” (1965) was a Prithvi Prictures production movie. It was produced by N N Sippy and directed by Raja Nawathe. The movie had Manoj Kumar, Nanda, Pran, Dhumal, Mehmood, Helen, Madan Puri, Tarun Bose, Manmohan, Naina, Laxmi Chhaya, Hiralal etc in it.
The movie had some memorable songs in it. Five songs from this movie have been discussed in the past.
Here is the sixth song from the movie. This song is sung by Sharda. Shailendra is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.
Only the audio of this song seems to be available. I wonder if the song was picturised in the movie or it was excluded from the movie for some reasons. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Atif M.
Song-Aayega kaun yahaan kisko sadaayen deta hai dil (Gumnaam)(1965) Singer-Sharda, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics(Provided by Atif M)
aa aa
aayega kaun yahaan
kisko sadaayen deta hai dil
aa aa
apna hai kaun yahaan
kisko sadaayen deta hai dil
aa aa
aayega kaun yahaan
pyaar ka dhokha khawaab suhaana
dekha thha jo kabhi
aaj usi ki yaad se lipti
roti hai zindagi
roti hai zindagi
aa aa
dushman hai saara jahaan
kisko sadaayen deta hai dil
aa aa
aayega kaun yahaan
mere dil ke ik kone mein
jalta thha jo diya
jaane kaisi aandhi aayi
aur woh bujh gaya
aur woh bujh gaya
aa aa
ab to hai sirf dhuaan
kisko sadaayen deta hai dil
aa aa
aayega kaun yahaan
kisko sadaayen deta hai dil
aa aa
aayega kaun yahaan

My friends and I had seen ‘Gumnaam’ on the first day of release. And we had seen this song in the movie. It’s sung by Nanda. By the way, did you know that ‘Gumnaam’ was based on Agatha Christie’s whodunit, ‘And then there were none’?

In the original the murderer is also murdered and literally there are/is none left. There is no character like Mehmood in the novel. Its worth the read. It gives you the creeps. The movie is no match.
Agatha Christie is the undisputed queen of crime. Her novels are very meticulously organized and the till the last pages you are not wiser about the identity of the murderer. In one book even the detective turns out to be the murderer. I have read all her 90+thrillers. If you read one book you are hooked to read them all.

Nitin Shah, I totally agree. ‘Gumnaam’ was not a patch on Dame Agatha Christie’s taut, nail biting novel. And, do you remember, the novel is written in the first person? From the perspective of the murderer?! There’s no Mehmood to distract the reader. And you’re right. Pick up any one book of Agatha Christie and you’re hooked! Her characters, the lovable motherly Miss Marple and the dapper Hercule Poirot are characters that still have legions of fans all over the world.

And Maniji characters like Tommy and Tuppence Beresford in The Secret Adversary, Partners in Crime, N or M?, By the Pricking of the Thumbs and Postem of Fate were most/very adorable. Hey I remember all the names/titles. Such is the charm that you do not forget.
