Mera kuchh saamaan tumhaare paas padaa hai

on:On the occasion of Gulzar’s birthday today (18 august), we are discussing a few songs penned by him. He has written so many great songs in Hindi movies that we are spoiled for choice. Gulzar is one of those lyricists who has not yet reached his individual century of songs in the blog. Hopefully he will reach there in a few weeks time.
There is one song which was a long pending farmaish with me. The farmaish sender, Peevesie states that her farmaish for this song was pending for two years. She reminded me again recently and helpfully sent me the lyrics of the song too.
So here is this memorable song from “Ijaazat”, which finally makes it to the blog.
The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and it is picturised on Anuradha Patel and Naseeruddin Shah. R D Burman is the music director.
The lyrics are typically Gulzar like, with interesting play with the words where feelings and memories are likened to concrete substances and it is demanded that they may please be returned. Quite imaginative and very Gulzar like indeed.

Song-Mera kuchh saamaan tumhaare paas padaa hai (Ijaazat)(1987) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Gulzar, MD-R D Burman
Lyrics(Provided by Peevesie)
Aa aa aa aa
aa aa aa aa
aa aa
mera kuchh saamaan
tumhaare paas padaa hai
ae
mera kuchh saamaan
tumhaare paas padaa hai
ho
saawan ke kuchh bheege bheege din rakhe hain
o
aur mere ek
khat mein lipti
raat padi hai
wo raat bujhaa do
meraa wo saamaan lautaa do
wo raat bujhaa do
meraa wo saamaan lautaa do
mera kuchh saamaan
tumhaare paas padaa hai
hoo
saawan ke kuchh bheege bheege din rakhe hain
ooo
aur mere ik
khat mein lipati
raat padi hai
wo raat bujhaa do
meraa wo saamaan lautaa do
patjhad hai kuchh, hai naa
hmm
ho
patjhad mein kuchh patton ke
girne ki aahat
kaanon mein ek baar
pahan ke laut aayi thi
patjhad ki wo shaakh abhi tak
kaanp rahi hai
wo shaakh giraa do
meraa wo saamaan lautaa do
wo shaakh giraa do
meraa wo saamaan lautaa do
ik akeli chhatri mein jab
aadhe aadhe bheeg rahe thhey
ik akeli chhatri mein jab
aadhe aadhe bheeg rahe thhey
aadhe sookhe aadhe geele
sookhaa to main le aayi thhi
geelaa man shaayad
bistar ke paas padaa ho
wo bhijwaa do
meraa wo saamaan lautaa do
ek sau solah chaand ki raatein
ek tumhaare kaandhe kaa til
ek sau solah chaand ki raatein
ek tumhaare kaandhe kaa til
geeli mehandi ki khushboo
jhoothh moothh ke shikawe kuchh
jhooth moothh ke waade bhi sab yaad karaa do
sab bhijwaa do,
meraa wo saamaan lautaa do
sab bhijawaa do,
meraa wo saamaan lautaa do
ek ijaazat de do bas
jab is ko fafanaaoongi
main bhi wahin
so jaaoongi
main bhi wahin
so jaaoongi

Its a coincidence I think,Ashok Mehta, ace cinematographer of this beautifully shot movie died on August 15th 2012. If I am not wrong, Late Ashok Mehta appears in this movie for a 2 second shot.

Awesome song!!! Gulzar’s stamp 100% on this song.
And sung so beautifully by Ashaji.
Am surprised it was not on the blog yet – but better late than never.
And no better day than posting it on Gulzar saab’s birthday.
Thanks, Peevisie, for sending this in to Atul. And thanks for posting this today, Atul.

Just now I heard a radio interview by famous
Sound recordist/audiographer-Narendra Singhji,
In which he told that before composing this particular song, Pancham ji ne Gulzar ji se poochha ke “isse main kaise compose karoon, ye toh Times of India ki news report jaisi hai”(pointing towards the format of this particular song which does not have a proper mukhda-antara format) I thought main iss baat ko idhar share karoon.
Narendra Singhji worked as sound recordist/audiographer with Satyajit Ray(In Shatranj ke khilari)Mrinal Sen,Mani Kaul, Gulzar(Ijaazat,Maachis,Lekin,Hu tu tu)
And started his stint as a sound recordist with Ramannad Sagar ji`s Aankhein song “milti hai zindagi mein mohabbat kabhi kabhi”

Thank you Peevesie ji for the lyrics of this beautiful song picturised beautifully on beautiful Anooraadha Patel.
Thanks again Pancham da(Wherever you are) for the beautiful music,(Pancham ji, humourously called this song as “Luggage song”) (Somewhere Gulzar ji told this fact in his interview)
