Mujhko baar baar yaad na aa bewafaa

on:“Raagini” (1958) was an Ashok Pictures production. It was directed by Rakhan. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Kishore Kumar, Padmini, Jabeen Jaleel, Nazir Hussain, Achla Sachdev, etc in it.
As far as I am concerned, this movie is memorable for its gorgeous music. There was unimaginable variety in the songs of this movie and these songs had quite interesting bits of trivia associated with them as well.
I have discussed as many as three songs from this movie. For those who have forgotten, the delightful romantic comedy song, viz Main Bangali chhokra is from this movie, which was picturised as a stage song in this movie.
Here is another Kishore- Asha Bhonsle song from “Raagini”(1958). It is also picturised on the same duo of Kishore Kumar and Padmini as another stage song, but this time it is a drunkard song. Males getting drunk is quite common in Hindi movie songs, but a female getting drunk and giving the male a run for his money in being drunk- this is quite new by the standards of Hindi movie songs, and it must have quite new and revolutionary 54 years back.
Here is this delightful and a different kind of a duet from “Raagini”. It is written by Qamar Jalalabadi. Music is composed by O P Nayyar.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

Yes Atul-ji. I have this habit of looking out for the ‘now famous’ faces in old movies.
The delightful Kishore Kumar song “Hawaon pe likh do hawaon ke naaam…” from ‘Do Dooni Char’ shows Kishore and a sweet, naughty little girl in ‘ghagra-choli’. She’s a very young Neetu Singh!
In the ‘shaadi’ song “Chale aao saiyya rangeeli mai…” from ‘Bazar’ look out for a young girl in the chorus. She’s Tabu!

Please correct the name of singers given just above the lyrics. This is a kishore-asha duet.

‘Raagini’ was a smash hit for its songs. And it had quite a good story line too.
By the way, there’s this duet sung by Geeta Dutt and Asha Bhosale, “Is duniya se nirala hoon main…”, picturised on two young kids. They are Kishore Kumar and Jabeen Jalil in their ‘bachpan’. If you look closely, you’ll realise that the ‘bachha’ Kishore is a very very young Vinod Mehra!
