Jeena to hai usika jisne ye raaz jaana

Posted on: September 12, 2008

This movie Adhikaar (1971) may have been forgotten, but this movie had some very nice songs in it. I had already posted one song “Rekha O Rekha” from this movie. Here is another song, a qawwali from this movie, this time.

And what a qawwali ! R D Burman proves that he was not just a composer of foot tapping western tunes, he could create nice qawwalis as well. And this qawwali is just as foot tapping as any other R D Burman compositions. This must rank as one of the best qawwalis in Bollywood movies, that is for sure.

It has been written by a little known lyricist called Ramesh Pant. He certainly had some talent for lyrics writing as we see here. Too bad we did not hear much of him afterwards.

Rafi has sung this song with great passion and involvement. The energy in his voice can be felt so clearly when one listens to this qawwali.

This qawwali is sung on the occasion of the birthday of a kid. So this song is sort of a “happy birthday to you” qawwali. That way, it is different from the routine qawwalis that typically have “husn and ishq” as their topic.

On screen, the quawwali is sung by Pran. A dreaded villain of 1950s and 60s, Pran was turning over a new leaf in those days, and this song shows that his transformation from a bad guy to a good one was on course.

Song- Jeena to hai usikaa jisne ye raaz jaana (Adhikaar) (1971) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics- Ramesh Pant, MD- R D Burman

Lyrics

aisi cheez sunaayen ke mahfil de taali pe taali
warnaa apnaa naam nahin hai Banne Khaan Bhopaali
munne miyaan badhaai bano khoob honhaar
donon jahaan ki nematen hon aap pe nisaar
haan bachpan ho khushgawaar jawaani sadaabahaar
Allaah kare ye din youn hi aaye hazaar baar

aaa
jeenaa to hai usi ka
are jeenaa to hai usi kaa jisne ye raaz jaanaa
haan jeenaa to hai usi kaa jisne ye raaz jaanaa
hai kaam aadmi kaa
hai kaam aadmi kaa auron ke kaam aanaa
jeenaa to hai usi kaa jisne ye raaz jaanaa
jeenaa to hai usi kaa jisne ye raaz jaanaa
jeenaa to hai usi kaa jisne ye raaz jaanaa

kisi ne kahaa tu hai taaron kaa Raajaa
kisi ne kahaa aaja mere paas aajaa
kisi ne duaa di kisi ne badhaai
sabki tu aankh ka taaraa bane
teri hi roshni mein chamke teraa gharaana
hai kaam aadmi kaa
hai kaam aadmi kaa auron ke kaam aana
jeenaa to hai usi kaa jisne ye raaz jaanaa
jeenaa to hai usi kaa jisne ye raaz jaanaa
jeenaa to hai usi kaa jisne ye raaz jaanaa

dil lagaake tu padhnaa hamesha aage badhnaa
sach kaa daaman na chhoote chaahe ye duniyaa roothe
kaam tu achche karna sirf Allah se darnaa
sabhi ko gale lagaana mohabbat mein lut jaanaa

mohabbat wo khazaana hai kabhi jo kam nahin hotaa
hai jiske paas ye daulat use kuchh gham nahin hotaa
hai jiske paas ye daulat use kuchh gham nahin hotaa
meraa-teraa karke jo marte gore kale me bhed karte
unko ye samjhaanaa
sab log hain barabar itna na bhool jaana
hai kaam aadmi kaa
hai kaam aadmi kaa auron ke kaam aanaa
jeenaa to hai usi kaa jisne ye raaz jaanaa
jeenaa to hai usi kaa jisne ye raaz jaanaa
jeenaa to hai usi kaa jisne ye raaz jaanaa

soorat pe maashaa Allaah wo baat hai abhi se
tadpenge dil hazaaron guzroge jis galli se
doli mein jab bithaake laaoge phuljhadi ko
zindaa rahe to ham bhi dekhenge us ghadi ko
agar Allaah ne chaaha to ham us din bhi aayenge
badhaai hamne gaayi hai to ham sehraa bhi gaayenge
agar Allaah ne chaaha to ham us din bhi aayenge
badhaai hamne gaayi hai to ham sehraa bhi gaayenge
badhaai hamne gaayi hai to ham sehraa bhi gaayenge

chaand-sooraj aayenge neeche
dulhaa-dulhan ke aage peechhe
phool barsaayenge
aayega jab khushi ka hansta hua zamana
hai kaam aadmi kaa
hai kaam aadmi kaa auron ke kaam aanaa
jeenaa to hai usi kaa jisne ye raaz jaanaa

I hated this film, but the music was great. Pran…I love Pran…

Ramesh Pant wrote dialogues for a lot of films I think. I remember seeing his name often in film credits.

He may have been a dialogue writer, but he seems to have acted as a lyricist only in this movie.

Very True. I have always felt that RDB had great flair for Qawwali. His Qawwali’s are much superior than namely i would say LP (Parda hai Parda hai- a mediocre composition)

RDB’s Best :

“Pal do pal ka saath hamara”
“Hai agar Dushman Zaman kam nain.”

This particular qawwali I tuned out to be so good because of Rafi. Just like “Parda hai Parda hai”. Redeeming feature and saving grace of that song was rafi only.

Yes, the RD Burman qawwalis mentioned by you are my favourite qawwalis too.
