Doosron ka dukhdaa door karne waale

Posted on: February 9, 2012

This article is written by Sudhir, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

Kavi Pradeep, the famous poet and lyricist, has been a well known figure both in the film industry and in the field of Hindi literature. He is one of the few poets who have sung their own writings in the films. Going by the numbers, probably Pradeep ji is a leader in this category of lyricist-singer. He has a fairly large number of songs to his credit, that he has sung himself.

On this blog, he is one of the centurion lyricists with 102 songs posted, that are written by him. Of the ones posted on this blog, 12 are also sung by him. Here is another iconic song that he has written and sung, to the music composition by N Dutta.

The film is ‘Dashera’ a 1956 released under the banner of Navkala Niketan. The film is a religious / mythological fare. It is produced by Ramesh Vyas and is directed by Chaturbhuj Doshi. The main actors in this film are Shahu Modak, Nirupa Roy, Gajanan Jagirdaar, Surendra, Yashodhara Katju, Kum Kum, Jagdish Kanwal, Heera Sawant, Rooplaxmi, Narbada Shankar, Mohan Choti, Tiwari, Manorama, Daisy Irani, SN Tripathi, Rajan Haksar etc. The film has eleven songs in all, ten of which are penned by Kavi Pradeep and one by Saraswati Kumar ‘Deepak’. This song is written by Pradeep. The music compositions are by N Dutta. Only the audio clip of this song is available. I request other knowledgeable readers to please add more information about this film and the picturization of this song.

The words, and the voice of Pradeep are very special. In most cases, the songs that he has sung himself are philosophical songs or songs with a message. And such is the case with this song also. The words emphasize good deeds and actions, and the belief in destiny, and in God – a belief that all will be well. The words and the voice carry this message very convincingly. Another wonderful song by Pradeep, set to a very uplifting tune by N Dutta. I am sure you will want to play it again, and again.

doosron ka dukhdaa door karne waale
tere dukh door karenge ram
kiye jaa tu jag mein bhalaai ka kaam
tere dukh door karenge ram

O compassionate one
Take away the sadness and misery
From someone else’s life
Your unhappiness will be weeded out by Him
Keep on the good deeds, the good work
Your unhappiness will be weeded out by Him

satya ka hai path ye, dharam ka maarg
sambhal sambhal chalnaa praani
pag pag par hai yahaan re kasauti
kadam kadam par qurbaani
magar tu daanwadol na honaa
teri sab peer harengey ram

This is path of truth and goodwill
Careful as you make your way
There a trials in every stride
And sacrifices to be made at every step
Let that not waver you from your path
For you anguish and sorrows
Will be taken away by Him

kya toone paayaa, kya toone khoyaa
kya tera laabh hai kya haani
iss ka hisaab karega wohi
par tu kyun fikar kare re praani
tu bas apna kaam kiye jaa
tera bhandaar bharenge ram

What all did you get in this life
What all did you lose
Do not fret and be troubled
On your gains and losses
Just keep on with your good work
And your treasures will be filled by Him
