Another wonderful song pulled out from memory, and another as yet unknown film (to me) discovered. Awaara Abdullah is a film released in 1963 by Henna Films, Bombay. The direction is by Tara Harish, a name that is unfamiliar. It sounds like a joint name of two people, but I could be wrong.
From the star cast, this film appears to be another costume action drama, a type of B/C grade film with a formula that always includes Dara Singh and Helen. The complete list of actors is Dara Singh, Chandrashekhar, Praveen Chaudhry, Helen, Bhagwan, Uma Dutt, Rajan Kapoor, Sri Bhagwan, Rajrani, Rekha, Hari, Mullick, Behari Singh, Hari Shukla, John D’Silva, El Rod Goa, Randhawa etc. The lyrics for this film are penned by Asad Bhopali, and the music composition is by N Dutta.
The on screen presentation is another court dance, and this time the villainous king is Chandrashkhar. Whatever transpires prior to this song, it results in Dara Singh, and Bhagwan being made prisoners by the bad king. Request for other knowledgeable readers to add more information about this film and the circumstances of this song. Apparently, the punishment that is meted out to the fighting heroes is to be part of a slave team that holds up a stage, on which the dance takes place. The dance performance is by Helen, the queen of the dancing floor. The way she seems to be gliding so effortlessly, across the small stage, is just a treat to watch.
Another wonderful rendition by Asha Bhosle, and another hummable song, from N Dutta. Enjoy.
kahaan se laayegaa ye husn ye shabaab koi
zamaane bhar mein nahin aap ka jawaab koi
Wherefrom can anyone else
Manage such loveliness, such grace
There are none in this world
Who can compare with you
fitnagi hai, dilkashi bhi, dushmani go har adaa hai
dil hai roshan, allaah allaah, jis ne dekha mar mitaa hai
(You have)
Mischievousness, attraction
Every style is a challenge in hostility
(Your) heart is resplendent
By the grace of Allaah
All who see you
Lose their self to you
(NOTE: fitnah = mischief, evil; fitnagi = mischievousness
dilkash = attractive to the heart)
ye nigaahen hum ko chaahen, ye inaayat kam nahin hai
bandaa parvar, meharbaani, ab kisi ka gham nahin hai
That your eyes seek me, adore me
Is a favor that means a lot (to me)
O my benefactor
This beneficence takes away all my sorrows
aap hi ko dekhte hain, ho ke sab se bekhabar hum
aarzoo hai aap hi ko dekhe jaayen umra bhar hum
Unabashed, unaware
I gaze at you
It’s a heartfelt desire
To keep on seeing you
For the rest of my life
