Kabhi laaya jhumke na laaya chunariya

Posted on: November 7, 2011

“Hum Deewaane” (1965) is by now an obscure movie. This B grade movie was produced by Young India Entertainers and it was directed by Bhagwan. Bhagwan himself played the lead role in this movie alongwith Chandrashekhar, Mumtaz, Anwar, Agha, Maruti, Iftekhar, Rajen Haksar, Helen etc.

C Ramchandra, then towards the fag end of his career, and who had good personal relations with Bhagwan, was the music director of this movie. C Ramchandra, who is mainly known as a music director was also a versatile singer. He had the able to sing songs in different styles and voices. For instance, when Talat Mehmood was unable to arrive for the recording of a song of “Azaad”(1955), C Ramchandra, instead of cancelling the recording, sang the song himself. His voice sounds so much like Talat Mehmood in this song that Rajinder Krishan bet with him (and lost the bet) that the song was sung by Talat Mehmood. To this day, many people may still be fooled into believing that the song Kitna haseen hai mausam (Azaad) is sung by Talat Mehmood.

Here is a duet song from “Hum Deewaane” (1965). This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and C Ramchandra. C Ramchandra sings for Bhagwan. I am unable to identify the lady.

Here is this wonderful song from “Hum Deewaane” (1965).

Anand Bakshi is the lyricist of this song.

Atul ji,
HUM DIWANE(1965) Young India Entertainer film, produced by Natabhai Shah was Directed by actor Master Bhagwan. He also wrote the story and s/play,while Shyam Hindi wrote Dialogues.
Fed up of the tyrannical Zamindar in the village,Shyam(Chandrasekhar) and Bhola(Bhagwan) come to Bombay for work. They get entangled in the evil Mary’s gold smuggling gang, but manage to get the gang arrested by Police.
Next they meet Seth Mohanlal(Iftikar) and his daughter Asha(Mumtaz) who promptly falls in love with Shyam.Madan(Anwar),the partner of Mohanlal is a croock and kidnaps Mohanlal,Shyam and Asha,to achieve his goal of usurping the property of Mohanlal.
Bhola, with help from his friends works hard to expose and arrest Madan and Co.,thus rescueing Shyam,Asha and Mohanlal from a death trap.
In the 60s,both C.Ramchandra and Bhagwan, both very close friends, were on the waning stage of their careers and were trying hard to revive the magic of Albela, which never could happen.Bhagwan ended up doing minor roles and C.Ramchandra dragged his career some more years on the goodwill of his golden past.
This was one of the films from that painful period.
