Zara thham jaa tu ae saawan

Posted on: October 16, 2011

“Jogan” (1950) was a Ranjit Movietone movie which was a big risk taken by Chandulal Shah, the producer, since the theme of the movie as envisaged by him was regarded as a recipe for disaster by leading directors like Nitin Bose and Mahesh Kaul, who refused to have anything to do with the project. Then Kidar Sharma took up the challenge and finished up the project in less than one month. This risky proposition, whose failure would have ruined Chandulal Shah financially had the movie failed, became a box office success.

I have discussed as many as seven songs from this movie in the past. Luckily for me, this movie has an almost endless supply of songs and I would like to discuss all the songs from this movie that I can locate.

Here is another song from the movie. The song is sung by Geeta Dutt and it is picturised on Nargis. The lyricist is Himmar Rai Sharma, who is a “new” name for me as I had never heard about in the past. I request our knowledgeable readers to tell us more about him.

The music is composed by Bulo C Rani.

Song-Zara thham ja tu ae saawan (Jogan) (1950) Singer-Geeta Dutt, Lyrics-Himmat Rai Sharma, MD-Bulo C Rani

Lyrics

zaraa tham jaa tu
zaraa tham jaa tu ae saawan
mere saajan ko aane de
aane de
aane de
mere roothhe piyaa ko phir meri bigdi
banaane de
banaane de
banaane de
zaraa tham jaa tu

odhni pe bijliyon ki got main lagaaungi
odhni pe bijliyon ki got main lagaaungi
pees ke kaalighataayen kaajal banaaungi
pees ke kaalighataayen kaajal banaaungi
garaj baadal ki apne dil ki dhadkan mein basaaungi
teri nanhi phuhaaren goonthh ke maalaa banaaungi
salone ke rijhaane ko
salone ke rijhaane ko mujhe sapne
sajaane de
zaraa tham jaa tu ae saawan
mere saajan ko aane de
aane de
aane de
zaraa tham jaa tu

The line “teri nanhi phuhaaren BOOND ke maalaa banaaungi” should read “teri nanhi phuhaaren GOONTH ke maalaa banaaungi”.
