Maine kahaa phoolon se

Posted on: October 9, 2011

Hrishikesh Mukherjee had watched a Japanese movie, which depicts a man who has only a few days to live but instead of being melancholic, he lives his life cheerfully and spreads happiness all around him. Hrishikesh Mukherjee liked that movie so much that he adpated the movie into Hindi and created “Anand” (1970). Not content with that, he re adapted the same adaptation to change the gender of the main character and he thus came up with “Mili” (1975). Both these movies were critically well acclaimed and well received by the ordinary movie watchers as well.

Like most Hindi movies, “Anand” as well as “Mili” had very nice songs in them that remain popular to this day.

Here is a song from “Mili”(1975). This song is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Jaya Bhaduri and a few kids. Yogesh is the lyricist. Music is composed by S D Burman.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by nahm.

main ne kaha phoolon se
main ne kaha phoolon se
hanso to wo khil khila ke hans diye
aur yeh kaha jeewan hai
bhai mere bhai
hansne ke liye
o main ne kaha phoolon se
hanso to wo khil khila ke hans diye
aur yeh kaha jeewan hai
bhai mere bhai
hansne ke liye
hansne ke liye
main ne kaha phoolon se
hanso to wo khil khila kar hans diye

yeh shaam to
yoon hanse jaise hanse dulhan
yeh shaam to
yoon hanse
jaise hanse dulhan
yeh shaam to neele neele saanwle amber mein
rang jo gulaabi lage bharne
maine kaha
o maine kaha rangon se
chhalko to wo jag yeh saara rang gaye
aur yeh kaha jeewan hai
bhai mere bhai
rangne ke liye
rangne ke liye
main ne kaha phoolon se
hanso to wo khil khila kar hans diye

mausam mila
wo kahin ek din mujh ko
mausam mila
wo kahin ek din mujh ko
mausam mila re
maine kaha ruko khelo
mere sang tum
mausam bhala ruka jo wo
ho gayaa gum
maine kaha
o maine kaha
apno nse
chalo to wo
saath mere chal diye
aur yeh kaha jeewan hai
bhai mere bhai
chalne ke liye
chalne ke liye
main ne kaha phoolon se
hanso to wo khil khila kar hans diye
main ne kaha phoolon se
hanso to wo khil khila kar hans diye

Atul ji,
The character of ANAND was inspired by RAJ KAPOOR. He used to call Hri.Mukherjee as ” Babu Moshai “.Hri Mukherjee once said that he wrote the film when, once Raj kapoor was seriously ill and thought that he will die.
That is why ANAND film is ” dedicated to Raj Kapoor and the people of Bombay “.
Originally Kishore Kumar and Mehmood were to play Anand and Bhasker’s roles. When H.Mukherjee went to see Kishore Kumar,he was driven away by the Watchman citing “Malik ka Hukm hai”.It was a great misunderstanding but H,Mukherjee was so angry that that he vowed never to work with Kishore again. Thus Mehmood also lost the role and Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh were selected.

This great melody is one of the last hits of Sachin Da, a joyful and superlative singing by the Nightingale and overall a wonderful “shabd-sanyojan” by Yogesh.

This melody has a total of four antaras, the first three are available in audio link but the last one is still not available online. Below is the lyrics of the last antara

ye zindagi
jo lagi mujhe kabhi sooni
ye zindagi
jo lagi mujhe kabhi sooni
ye zindagi
madhur madhur kho gaye geet kahin
bichhad bichhad gaya sangeet kahin
maine kaha panchhi se gaao to wo geet madhur gaa uthe
aur ye kaha jeevan hai bhai mere bhai gaane ke liye
