“Angulimaal” (1960) is the story of a Historical/mythological character Angulimaal who was a bandit during Gautam Buddha’s time. He would rob people and cut their fingers (anguli) and wear a garland (mala) made out of these fingers- hence his name Angulimaal. According to tales, he gets hold of Lord Buddha and he intends to subject him to the same treatment, but he gets reformed by Lord Buddha.
I have discussed one song from this movie in the past. Here is another song from this movie. This song is sung by Aarti Mukherji and it is picturised on Nimmi and Bharat Vyas. The song is a chaayaageet song by my definition as it is being sung at night. But then Bharat Bhushan is sleeping, or trying to sleep. So, this song is sort of like a lullaby being sung by Nimmi to a grown up Bharat Bhushan 🙂 . who says that lullabies can only be sung by mothers to their young ones. Why cannot a wife sing a lullaby to her husband. 🙂 This song sounds so much like a lullaby. In fact, I have begun to regard this song as a chaayaageet lullaby in my mind. 🙂
Bharat Vyas is the lyricist. Music is composed by Anil Biswas. It is nice to see an Anil Biswas composition in this blog after such a long time.
