“Milan” (1967) was a musical blockbuster. I remember its songs being all over the place when I was a very young kid. As a kid, I would have dearly loved to see this movie, but those days many parents rationalised that watching movies was bad for kids. There is nothing new in that. Every pleasurable activity known to mankind is always regarded as bad/illegal/immoral etc by authorities and therefore discouraged since time immemorial.
I finally watched this movie much later, in 1980s, but the experience of watching a movie of 1967 some 15 years later is like watching old news and the entire atmosphere that one can experience when the movie is new is missing.
I have posted three of the hugely popular songs from this movie.Every song from this movie was hugely popular in fact. My readers have given farmaishes for the missing songs from this movie.
Here is a song from this movie that goes “bol gori bol tera kaun piyaa”. This song is picturised on Sunil Dutt and o a lady which I presume is Jamuna. And for a change I am told I have managed to identify an actress correctly ! Hurray for my improving identifying skills. 😀
The song is sung by Mukesh and Lata. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist and Laxmikant Pyarelal composed the lilting music.
The picturisation also shows other leading actors watching the dance performance as spectators.
As can be guessed from the picturisation, this movie was a grand spectacle, and those who watched this movie during its first run must still be savouring that experience, I am sure.
