Man mein kisi ki preet basaa le

on:Bollywood movies have created some big myths which is now believed by everyone. One such myth is that it is possible to sit on a grand piano and play it while singing a song. In reality, playing such a big piano is so difficult that a player playing it can in no way sing as well. But our Bollywood heroes are shown merrily singing away while playing the piano, which incidentally is shown creating music of all other instuments, viz violin, guitar, dholak, flute, etc in addition to its own music.
Here in this song, at least the piano player is not shown singing. Premnath plays the piano player who is a recluse and mixes with no one, and is only found seated on piano and playing tunes. I guess they did not have personal computers and internet those days. His mother Durga Khote is worried about him. She decides to introduce him to a sweet young girl who is none other than Madhubala. The two walk downstairs of the big mansion (that every charaecter in Bollywood movies possessed those days) to find Premnath seated on the piano and playing a tune.
How does Madhubala get introduced to Premnath ? In Bollywood style, she bursts into a song-“man me kisi ki preet basaale”. Premnath, seeing her sing, plays a suitable tune on the piano. That way, I would say that this piano song is a more realistic song compared to most piano songs that we see in Bollywood movies.
This is a lovely song too. Lata sings for Madhubala. Rajinder Krishan wrote the song and Anil Biswas composed it.
It is a nice song, and it is nicely picturised too, I think.
Song-Man mein kisi ki preet basaale (Aaraam) (1951) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Anil Biswas
Lyrics
man mein kisi ki preet basaale
O matwaale O matwaale
man mein kisi ki preet basaale
kisi ko man kaa meet banaale
meet banaale, O matwaale O matwaale
man mein kisi ki preet basaale
is duniyaan me kisi kaa hojaa
kisi ko kar le apanaa
preet banaale ye jivan ko ek suhaanaa sapanaa
ek suhaanaa sapanaa
jivan mein ye jyot jagaale
O matwaale O matwaale
man mein kisi ki preet basaale
preet sataaye preet rulaaye
jiyaa mein aag lagaaye
jalnewaalaa hanste hanste phir bhi jaltaa jaaye
phir bhi jaltaa jaaye
preet ke hai andaaz niraale
O matwaale O matwaale
man mein kisi ki preet basaale

Very melodious song. As usual Lata’s voice is superb. the piano is also played very nicely.

The video link has been removed. A couple of this song’s videos are available at YT. I would suggest the following video link which, even though, not as good as other ones, has a beautiful piano prelude before the song starts.
