SHE ne khela HE se aaj cricket match

on:In India, the three unifying things for Indians are Indian Railways, Bollywood movies and Cricket. We have had several rail related songs in Bollywood movies, but it is a great surprise that cricket related songs are conspicuous by their absence, even though cricket is as big a craze among Indians as movies, and it has become more so in the last few decades.
I discovered that a cricket song was created by Bollywood as way back as half a century ago. And unfortunately this still remains the only such song.
This song is from “Love Marriage”(1959) whose songs are being posted these days with my oft repeated remarks that the songs of this movie are great to listen to. But even I was not aware about this cricket song. I vaguely became aware of this song, and then I am thankful to Raja to show me the link of this song.
So here is this cricket song, which in fact can be called a comedy song, or even romantic song, even though the romance in this case is expressed in cricketing terms rather than in poetic terms.
This song is written by Shailendra and I am happy to note that he was familiar with cricket. We will never know whether Shankar Jaikishan (music directors) and Rafi (the singer) were also familiar with the game or not. This song is picturised on Dev Anand (playing a dashing batsman, looking like Don Bradman, no less, in his cricket gear), and others dressed similarly, and Mala Sinha and other ladies, playing cricket fans who seek autograph of Dev Saab.
Here is this song, which is one of the earlier example of a Hinglish song.

Song-SHE ne khela HE se aaj cricket match (Love Marriage) (1959) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Shailendra, MD-Shankar Jaikishan
Lyrics
SHE ne khela HE se aaj cricket match
SHE ne khela HE se aaj cricket match
ek nazar mein dil bechaara ho gayaa LBW
ek nazar mein dil bechaara ho gayaa LBW
SHE ne khela HE se aaj cricket match
SHE ne khela HE se aaj cricket match
ek nazar mein dil bechaara ho gayaa LBW
ek nazar mein dil bechaara ho gayaa LBW
aaye jo ham field mein tad tad baaji taali
arre mukhde par haseenon ke aa gayi phir se laali
san san karti ball se khud ko to bachaahy
par dil batuye mein le gayi ik champe ki daali
par dil batuye mein le gayi ik champe ki daali
dil ke versus dil ka haar gaye ham match
dil ke versus dil ka haar gaye ham match
ek nazar mein dil bechaara ho gayaa LBW
ek nazar mein dil bechaara ho gayaa LBW
SHE ne khela HE se aaj cricket match
ek nazar mein dil bechaara ho gayaa LBW
hamne jab ghumaaya pyaar ka ye balla
arre Lailaaon ke tent me mach gayaa phir to halla
jo bhi gend aayi to chauka hi fatkaaraa
par hosh hamaara le gaya ik sadi ka palla
par hosh hamaara le gaya ik sadi ka palla
un zulfon ke taar ne daale sau sau pench
un zulfon ke taar ne daale sau sau pench
ek nazar mein dil bechaara ho gayaa LBW
ek nazar mein dil bechaara ho gayaa LBW
SHE ne khela HE se aaj cricket match
ek nazar mein dil bechaara ho gayaa LBW
usne phenka leg break to hamne maara chhakka
out karta kaun hamen ham khilaadi pakka
armaano ki crease se badh gaye ham aage
aur unki chaal dekh kar rah gaye hakka bakkaa
aur unki chaal dekh kar rah gaye hakka bakkaa
cricket mein to jeet gaye par haare pyaar ka match
cricket mein to jeet gaye par haare pyaar ka match
ek nazar mein dil bechaara ho gayaa LBW
ek nazar mein dil bechaara ho gayaa LBW
SHE ne khela HE se aaj cricket match
SHE ne khela HE se aaj cricket match
ek nazar mein dil bechaara ho gayaa LBW
ek nazar mein dil bechaara …ho gayaa LBW

Yesterday, i was looking up the songs of” maya”. One of the comments led me to “love Marriage”. I found this song which i heard and saw today for the first time. Lovely song. Why it is tagged as “Taqdeer” song, i fail to understand.
At least Mr. Atul is right about Dev anand’s get up as Don Bradman. I was reading the description, my 10 year old son saw the first frame showing Dev Anand, and he said ” yeh Don Bradman hai na ? ” .
Let ‘s hope that MSD n co. can revisit 1983 !

All available sources as well as HFGK claimed that this song is penned by Hasrat Jaipuri even though upon hearing the wordings one can easily conclude that its a Shailendra’s creation. Clarification welcomed from experts…

i was introduced to this song a long time back as a teenager to be exact by my dad dearest. and very sweetly he explained to me that the LBW in this song meant “Love before Wedding”. i don’t know how i missed this song at the time it was posted; it would have surely got some extra information from my father had i showed it to him.
but then in 2009 september i was not yet that regular a visitor to ASAD. i was not yet a full-fledged Atulite. 🙂

I saw this movie a few years ago.
Lovely songs – was very surprised to see a full song dedicated to cricket.
If I remember right, before this song there is a fair amount of cricket too – with Dev Anand scoring a century !!! Mala Sinha (who till then does not like him – well, she pretends not to) obviously now falls for him.
It is all so easy in the movies. (:
