Kyaa muhabbat ka yahi anjaam hai

on:Ashok Kumar was a trained singer, whereas his younger brother Kishore Kumar was not. Even then, it was the untrained sibling who made it big as a playback singer.
When Ashok Kumar made his debut in 1930s, actors needed to sing their own songs, and Ashok Kumar has sung a few songs for himself.
Here is a rare song from a movie called “Najma” (1943). Here Ashok Kumar sings for himself. And he sings in a style influenced by K L Saigal who was the reigning singing star at that time.
Lyricist for this song was Anjum Pilibhiti whereas music direction was by Rafiq Ghaznavi.
It is a rare gem from 66 years ago.

Lyrics
kyaa muhabbat kaa yahi anjaam hai
kyaa muhabbat
kyaa muhabbat kaa yahi anjaam hai
saikdon gham
saikdon gham ek dil-e-naakaam hai
saikdon gham ek dil-e-naakaam hai
kis qadar taareeq hai duniyaa meri
kis qadar taareeq hai duniyaa meri
subah bhi meri nazar mein shaam hai
subah bhi me
subah bhi meri nazar mein shaam hai
dhadkanon se dil ki ye samjhaa hoon main
dhadkanon se dil ki ye samjhaa hoon main
zindagi bechainiyon kaa naam hai
zindagi be
zindagi bechainiyon kaa naam hai
dil ki barbaadi pe khush hoon isliye
dil ki barbaadi pe khush hoon isliye
aaj phir teraa zabaan par naam hai
aaj phir te
aaj phir teraa zabaan par naam hai
kyaa muhabbat kaa yahi anjaam hai

This is really nice! I never knew he was a trained singer. My mother used to talk about a song sung by him – chal chal re naujawan … from some old movie of his (old to me in those days!). I am going to see if it is available on the internet, and maybe you can add it to the list of farmaishes. Thanks, Atul, for bringing us these lovely songs which have been languishing in the dark for so many years.

Looks like the song Chal chal re naujawan was sung by someone else. I am wondering if there was a movie called Naujawan with him in the lead – can anyone help here?
