Karoon kyaa aas niraas bhai

Here is another evergreen K L Saigal classic. This song is from a 1939 movie called “Dushman”. When I first heard the Radio Ceylon announcement that the song was from “Dushman” , I half expected a song from Rajesh Khanna’s “Dushman” (1971) and was mightily disappointed.
But now I must say that I cannot have enough of this song “karoon kya aas niraas bhayi”.
The recording technology was primitive, the orchestra as spartan as could be, but despite all these technical deficiencies, K L Saigal has sung this song with gusto. Now I realise that he has sung this song amazingly well given the constraints imposed by technology at that time.
Lyricist was someone called Aarzoo Lucknowi, and his lyrics are so nice to go though. It is for the first time today that I am going through the lyrics of this song.
Pankaj Mullick, a pioneer music director, had created the music of this song. What a nice song from K L Saigal. Just out of this world.

WHO ELSE, BUT THE GREATEST OF THEM ALL – K.L.SAIGAL CAN RENDER SUCH A WONDERFUL SONG. HE IS UNMATCHED.
WORDS ARE NOT ENOUGH TO DESCRIBE HIS QUALITIES.
HE IS SIMPLY DEVINE.

A longest serving viceroy of India, was Victor Alexander John Hope, 2nd marquess of Linlithgow .
Her Excellency Lady Linlithgow was the first President of Tuberculosis Association of India.
In 1937, she issued a public appeal, for an anti-tuberculosis fund, and nearly a crore of rupees was collected.
A masterpiece of Nitiin Bose, this picture is anti-tuberculosis,”Dushman (Hindi)/ “JIBAN MARAN”(Bengali) both films with same star casts and story, made in 1939.
the the film addresses campaign of Lady Linlithgow’s immunization programme. In the year 1941 lady Linlithgo sanatorium was opened at Kasauli (Simla Hills).
