Gaa mere man gaa
Posted April 21, 2009
on:I have posted several nice songs from the movie “Lajwanti” (1958). This movie had some very good songs in it sung mainly by Asha Bhonsle. Majrooh Sultanpuri was the lyricist and S D Burman composed the music.
Here is a stage song from this movie. Nargis and her troupe perform a song and dance function in Allahabad and the song is being broadcast by All India Radio, Allahabad. Balraj Sahni, her husband who is estranged from her and is searching for her, listens to this song on radio, and finding out that the programme is taking place at Kala Bhawan, arrives there in time for the mukhda of the song to begin. How fast and prompt were the public transport system at Allahabad those days. 😉

Song-Gaa mere man gaa (Lajwanti) (1958) Singer-Asha Bhonsle, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-S D Burman
Lyrics
gaa mere man gaa
gaa mere man gaa
tu gaa mere man gaa
gaa mere man gaa
yoon hi bitaaye jaa din zindagi ke
yoon hi bitaaye jaa din zindagi ke
gaa mere man gaa
gaa mere man gaa
tu gaa mere man gaa
hmm hmm
teri tooti huyi beenaa
kahe tujhko hai jeenaa
jeewan ko nibhaa
hmm hmm
chaahe bhar bhar aaye
chaahe dukh barsaaye
tere nainon ki ghataa
tu nain mat chhalkaa
gaa mere man gaa
yoon hi bitaaye jaa din zindagi ke
gaa mere man gaa
aaa aaa
aaa aaa
hmm hmm
hmm hmm
ye hain duniyaa ke mele
tujhe phirnaa akele
sah sahke sitam
hmm hmm
nafrat kaa deewaanaa
nahin samjhaa zamaanaa
teraa dukh teraa gham
khaa thes aur muskaa
o
gaa mere man gaa
yoon hi bitaaye jaa din zindagi ke
gaa mere man gaa
hmm hmm
har su hai andheraa
phir kaun hai teraa
jo main kahoon zaraa sun
hmm hmm
meri kho gayi paayal
mere geet hain ghaayal
meri zakhmi hai dhun
phir bhi tu jhoome jaa
gaa mere man gaa
yoon hi bitaaye jaa din zindagi ke
yoon hi bitaaye jaa din zindagi ke
gaa mere man gaa
gaa mere man gaa
tu gaa mere man gaa

hullo atul
thank you for another song from lajwanti
actually balraj sahni and nargis do meet but later on. and after a lot of searching on the part of balraj sahni.
in fact their daughter doesn’t accept her back thinking she is the step mother {all those step mother movies of the past to be blamed i suppose!}and she had been raised to believe that her mom was dead.
this used to be mine and my grand mom’s favorite movie.
now atul you ve to post only one more song from this movie– the baby naaz stage song
thank you once again

Indeed Balraj Sahni managed to get to Allahabad AIR station pretty quick 🙂
I have heard this song before but did not know it was in this movie. Never seen the picturisation before. Not seen the movie but it looks like a good movie.

What a beautiful song, and now I have to watch the movie to see if Balraj Sahni got to meet Nargis and if they reconciled after this. I have always loved this song, just for the softness and the lyrics, and now you have made me want to watch the movie also! Thanks, Atul.
