Tumhaari nazar kyun khafaa ho gayi

Posted on: April 4, 2009

This song is from “Do Kaliyaan” though I was not aware of this fact when I used to listen to this popular song on loudspeakers during my younger days. Needless to say, I was not aware who were the actors on whom this song was picturised.

Now that I have seen the picturisation today, I have come to know that this song was picturised on Vishwajeet and Mala Sinha, Frankly, I was not aware that there two ever acted together. As it is , these two were just before my time.

One thing that one noticed about these movies of 1960s is the way the females dress. In addition to being dressed in sari which has remained more or less constant over the decades, the ladies were also shown wearing other dresses.

In this song, Mala Sinha wears an unbelievably tight Salwar Kurta. For some reason, wearing such tight dress was the fashion in Bollywood those days. To this day, I have always wondered now much time it took for the actresses to get into this dress, and afterwards, to come off this dress. This dress seems almost as tight as a skin.

This song is sung by Rafi and Lata. Sahir Ludhianvi wrote the lyrics and Ravi was the music director.
PS-I came to know much later that this song has a sad version too. Now I have included the sad version of the duet as well which was sent to me by Atif M.

Tumhaari nazar kyun khafa ho gayi
khata baksh do gar khata ho gayi
tumhaari nazar kyun khafa ho gayi
khata baksh do gar khata ho gayi
hamaara iraada to kuch bhi na thha
tumhaari khataa khud sazaa ho gayi
hamaara iraada to kuchh bhi na tha
tumhaari khataa khud sazaa ho gayi

sazaa hi sahi aaj kuchh to mila hai
sazaa mein bhi ik pyaar ka silsila hai
sazaa hi sahi aaj kuchh to mila hai
sazaa mein bhi ik pyaar ka silsila hai
muhabbat ka ab kuchh bhi anzaam ho
mulaaqat ki ibtidaa ho gayi
tumhaari nazar kyun khafa ho gayi
khata baksh do gar khata ho gayi
hamaara iraada to kuchh bhi na thha
tumhaari khataa khud sazaa ho gayi

mulaaqaat par itne magroor kyun ho
hamaari khushaamad pe mazboor kyun ho
mulaaqaat par itne magroor kyun ho
hamaari khushaamad pe mazboor kyun ho
manaane ki aadat kahaan pad gayi
sataane ki taaleem kyaa ho gayi

tumhaari nazar kyun khafa ho gayi
khata baksh do gar khata ho gayi

laalalalalalala
lalalalalalal
hmmmm

sataate na ham to manaate hi kaise
tumhen apne nazdeek laate hi kaise
sataate na ham to manaate hi kaise
tumhen apne nazdeek laate hi kaise
isi din ka chaahat ko armaan thhaa
qubool aaj dil ki duaa ho gayi
tumhaari nazar kyun khafa ho gayi
khata baksh do gar khata ho gayi
hamaara iraada to kuchh bhi na tha
tumhaari khataa khud sazaa ho gayi

lalalalalalala
hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm

tumhaari nazar kyun khafa ho gayi
khata bakhsh do gar khata ho gayi

hamaara iraada to kuchh bhi na thha
tumhaari khata khud saza ho gayi

saza kuchh bhi do par khata to bata do
meri be-gunaahi ka kuchh to silaa do
saza kuchh bhi do par khata to bata do
meri be-gunaahi ka kuchh to silah do
mere dil ke maalik mere devta
bas ab zulm ki intiha ho gayi

hamaara iraada to kuchh bhi na thha
tumhaari khata khud saza ho gayi

kabhi jin ki nazron mein armaan paley thhe
hazaaron diye aarzoo ke jale thhe
kabhi jin ki nazron mein armaan paley thhe
hazaaron diye aarzoo ke jaley thhey
yaqeen hai magar yeh yaqeen jurm hai
ke unki nazar bewafa ho gayi
tumhaari nazar kyun khafa ho gayi
khata bakhsh do gar khata ho gayi

Very nice, catchy song.
I used to always get confused between this one and “ye parda hata do”. Both catchy, “teasing” songs.

Btw, Biswajeet-Mala Sinha was quite a common and popular pairing. Apart from Do Kaliyan, they also acted in movies like “Aasra”, “Night in London”, “Paisa Ya Pyar”, “Pyar Ka Sapna”, “Phir Kab Milogi”.

Mr. Raja, You are great. After going through your comments I cannot make out whether you belong to South India. Your vocublary (or Glossary) of songs is marvellous. You have reminded me of one more famous song from “Night in London”.

“Nazar Na Lag Jaye” Sung by “Mohd. Rafi”.

Now I request (your turn) Mr. Atul to put it ASAP.

The song was also the favourite of Milan Singh (Lady Singer) usually singing “Rafi Saheb’s” songs.

‘Pyar Ka Sapna’ was an excellent movie, with good songs. There was a duet sung by Lata and Rafi,I think it was, which was picturised on Mala Sinha and Biswajeet, which was a v.good song indeed!

I think Ms. Sushma pointed to the following song of Pyar Ka Sapna released in 1969.

1. Tere Chere Se Hate Aankh to Duniya Dekhun

I have managed to locate this song. It is a nice song alright, but it is not a duet. It is a solo song sung by Rafi.

I think the song was titled ‘Main Wohi hun, wohi hun, wohi hun,if I remember correctly!

Yes indeed Ashwani, this is the song I was talking about!I remember this movie from the 70’s,when I was still in school! I now live abroad, and still rent out old Bollywood movies, for the nostalgia! This song has a lovely tune, and is sung so well by Lata and Rafi!

I have seen this movie. It was released in 1969, the year my father shifted from Lucknow to Delhi. I was in class Vth. As far as I recall this song appears towards the end of film when literate Mala Sinha tries to express her identity to Biswajeet. But the song mentioned above “Tere Chehre Se Hate Aankh to Duniya Dekhun” was more popular.

I agree with Ashwini, about the song ‘Nazar Na Lag jaaye’,from ‘Night in London’!That was a great song too.
