In aankhon ki masti

Somehow I feel that “Umrao Jaan” was to Rekha what “Paakeza” was to Meena Kumari. Both these movies were of a similar genre, showing a courtesan singing Mujra in a kotha.
Both these movies had another thing in common, viz their music, which sounded old fashioned and belonging to at least two decades ago, but the music of both these movies actually worked.
The song ” In aankhon ki masti” has become so popular that it has to be perhaps the most well known Mujra song of all time in Bollywood. The lyrics of Shahariar may go over the heads of most listeners, but they sound so sweet and meaningful, and that is what matters to the listeners. Asha Bhonsle, known for singing mainly fast songs, sang this song with great passion. And Khayyam, who tended to get just a few movies in a decade, made the most of this opportunity andcame up with memorable music in this movie.
The song was of course picturised on Rekha, with Farooque Sheikh as the decadant Lucknowi nawab listeing to this mujra.

Lovely!
I have always liked this song. I am a great fan of Rekha and she did a fantastic job in this film. She is such a good dancer as well.
Another song from this film I like is “Dil Cheez kya hai aap meri jaan lijiye”
