The Game of Thrones cast at San Diego Comic Con 2015

HBO confirmed today officially that Game of Thrones is once again returning to San Diego Comic Con. We can look forward to several members of the cast and crew of the show participating in panels and autograph sessions at SDCC, on July 22nd.

The complete panel info, according to HBO:

Friday, July 22

The GAME OF THRONES panel in Hall H at 2:15 p.m. will be moderated by Rob McElhenney. Panelists include: executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, director Michael Sapochnik and cast members (in alphabetical order) John Bradley (Samwell Tarly), Liam Cunningham (Ser Davos Seaworth), Nathalie Emmanuel (Missandei), Isaac Hemptstead Wright (Bran Stark), Conleth Hill (Varys), Faye Marsay (The Waif), Kristian Nairn (Hodor), Iwan Rheon (Ramsay Bolton) and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark). Autograph signing is at 4:15 p.m.

The aforementioned autograph signings for Game of Thrones (and all HBO programs) take place in the Warner Bros. booth #4545.  If you’re planning on attending Comic Con, be aware that that Warner Bros. follows SDCC’s ticket drawing/wristband distribution procedure for all signings, and “all ticket drawings and wristband distributions will take place in the morning of the day of the specific signing at the Sails Pavilion floor, between Ballroom 20 and Rooms 6A, 6BCF and 6DE.” Good. Got it? Get ’em!

For those of us who won’t be attending in person, we can still follow the coverage online. The Game of Thrones Twitter account will be covering the panel, and you can check out the hashtag #GoTSDCC to see what’s happening. We’ll be following along that day and posting up a storm as details from the panel flow in. Here’s hoping HBO graces us with some news on the day, or at least a great gag reel like they have in years past!

  1. Hodor!

Oh I can’t wait for this! I love their panels! 🙂 Although she’s not a major character I wish they had added little Bella Ramsey to the guest list.

  2. Hope we get a casting video, doubtful though.

But they should give us a very funny bloopers one at least… I love these!

  3. misss,

I never remember Emilia ever being at on of these.
Peter even less…he doesn’t do this sort of things….

  4. r-hard,

    This Conleth is a legend!!

OT: But anyone can find that pic with him and Aiden Gillan drunk as hell and eating ice-cream? It is hilarious!

  5. againagain,

Its more important who has interesting/funny things to say than who has the biggest roles in the show.

John Bradley and Conleth Hill are by most accounts the funniest actors on set, and Bradley’s shown that off in the press circuits prior to the start of each season. And Liam Cunningham is just amazing at all times. So that’s three big gets right there, though I can’t really speak for the others.

These panels are almost never very interesting though, no matter who’s on them. I don’t blame the participants; rather they always get asked such inane questions.

  6. I am going to be there this year. Hope I get drawn to get an autograph. This should be fun!

  7. Mihnea,

Emilia was present at first two seasons I believe ..

I hope she and kit and maisie come back..

I enjoyed first 4 seasons of comic con more than I did last one..

  8. the lst year comic con panel was boring and awkard don’t understand why they don’t bring the main cast anymore like 2011,2013(who was the best for me) and 2014…

  9. Kit is filming a movie in Montreal, that’s why he won’t go.
I don’t know about the others.

  10. againagain,

I imagine some of them are busy.

Peter Dinklage tends to look like he’d rather be doing anything else during PR, so it’s not really surprising to me that he’s not there.

  11. Yay!! So excited to have Iwan there this year. I’ve been wanting him to go for years haha. It’ll be cool to see Miguel there too and hear what he has to say. And, as always, I love being able to hear from Sophie. It should be pretty good!

  12. Their first comic-con after first season was with the so-called big five, i guess only their last will be the same.

  13. Iam calling it now it’s going to such a fun having Sophie speak about jon and LF ..

    Can’t wait

  14. dragonbringer,

I’m sure Iwan and Sophie are going to get the “so what did Ramsay mean when he said he was a part of Sansa” question a few times. Iwan’s already said stuff about it, buuuut it’s bound to be a subject to talk about again.

  15. Some good choices there. Personally I like to see a few of the smaller-name actors at these events anyway since we know what the big-names are going to say. Conleth Hill and John Bradley should be good fun, but I’m also particularly looking forward to seeing Faye, Isaac, and Iwan. It will also be great to hear what Sapochnik has to say, and in some ways his comments will be interesting than the actors.

Rob McElhenney will be a good moderator. I doubt we’ll get a casting video, but I hope they offer us something (e.g. bloopers, deleted scene).

  16. Great line-up. The actual panel has been a bit stale for a few years but that is almost never down to the cast, instead it’s the mediocre questions and attempts to extract new season info from them, which understandly the cast can’t spill.

Maybe they’ll have some interesting cast announcements this year!

Emilia is shooting a movie in Kentucky.

  18. You can tell how many of their main characters are getting more offers to do other things, lol.
I suppose it will be nice for some of the other actors to have an experience like this though. Conleth and Liam are pretty funny. Glad Isaac will get to have the experience!

  19. SciFiFantasyGirl,

Isaac has actually been to SDCC before, just not for GOT — he did the panel for The Boxtrolls in 2014, but was, for whatever reason, not on the GOT panel that same year.

  20. Great to see Isaac be a part of the panel. He has never been a part of them. And Sapochnick!!

I like that Rob McElhenney is moderating. He did a great job moderating An Evening with Game of Thrones.

  21. I imagine Sophie will troll a lot as far as Jon and LF are concerned. *eyeroll*

    Glad to see Isaac there.

  22. OK. I know I’m being dense here but who is the red haired lady in the center of the top row on that picture?

  23. Yay Iwan! Dang, I wish Rory was there. He and Maisie are great fun together. Carice and Liam too, ah well, mat leave is more important. 🙂

  24. None of the major actors

But it’s always good to have some of the peripheral actors on, eg Faye who played the Waif and Iwan Rheon in particular

The actors list will get smaller towards the end, meaning the big ones will be on then

    Great to see Sapochnik

  25. Lds,

Top billing and look at his costars. Nice job Kit. Should be interesting, Dolan is an interesting director to say the least.

  26. The Director said that Ghost was going to appear in episode 9 but they had to cut him. I want to know if Ghost was going to survive the battle or if they just wanted to kill all the dire wolves.

  27. Lds,

Omg sick!!!!!! I would love to see him in a role like that

I hope I run into him. I will be going to Montreal a few times this summer

  28. Mag,

If they wanted to kill him in the battle they would have put him there regardless of budget if it was a plot point. It’s clear that if they could afford it Ghost would have been there and survived

  29. Mmmmm I’m going to ignore everything Sophie says about Jon, Sansa, and the North LALALALALALA IT’S ALL FINE

  30. Nadia:
Mmmmm I’m going to ignore everything Sophie says about Jon, Sansa, and the North LALALALALALA IT’S ALL FINE

Well she’s a notorious bullshitter, as is Maisie and occasionally others. Actually, I think she half-bullshits, half doesn’t actually know what’s up. A lot of the actors haven’t read the books or delved deeply into theories like us plebians have, so I think people need to take a lot of what they say with a boulder of salt. I certainly do with Sophie and Maisie, plus they’re young and goofy and Maisie especially just likes messing with people. ? Although she’s more obvious about it compared to, say, poor Kit who tried his darndest all last year with the “No really, I’m dead!” thing.

  31. Nadia,

It’s fine. Sansa is smart enough to figure out that it is in everyone’s best interest (read that the Starks’ interest) for Jon to hold Winterfell (and the North) in times of war. Sansa should know, as Robb did in the books, that Jon would never hurt his siblings intentionally and that he’ll always look out for them. If she didn’t know this before, he clearly showed her how much he cared for Rickon. I mean surely she knows that Littlefinger sees her as a means to get control of the North so in a way having Jon be named KitN is sort of like flipping the bird to LF while at the same time being able to act the part of Queen without being subjected to a horrible marriage. Jon is the one to lead, Sansa is the one to rule. If they are smart, it should be a lethal combination. Even dragonproof.

  32. That panel seems just fine. Great personalities and interesting characters. The only downside, if I should call it that, is that they all seem like rather quiet individuals in a public forum, including D&D. I do suppose a majority of the main cast has always been that way. Jason Momoa was probably the most boisterous and showed that during his turn on the panel. Maisie might be the most outgoing in these situations – gets other people going (specifically Sophie), she enjoys speaking, laughs a lot. With this group I’m guessing Liam will end up doing most of the talking. Perhaps Iwan as well?

  33. misss:
The comic con last year was boring.
It will AGAIN be boring this year!

They weren’t at Comic Con last year.

  34. Nadia:
Mmmmm I’m going to ignore everything Sophie says about Jon, Sansa, and the North LALALALALALA IT’S ALL FINE

Considering Sophie doesn’t seem to understand the Sansa character anymore and has lost the plot, good idea.

  35. Cackling that Lena and Peter don’t show up anymore. Kudos to Liam and Sophie for their time doing promo this year!

  36. Somebody needs to ask Michael Sapochnik if he will be back for season 8 / why he isn’t doing any episodes in season 7.

  37. Danny,

Interviews suggest conflict and it won’t end well. Their relationship will be over even if LF is killed. Hopefully he’ll meet Arya and Bran soon.

  38. I hope that Sapochnik being there is a good omen that he’ll return for Season 8, but I’m not holding my breath there. Didn’t Alex Graves show up for the post-Season 4 panel, or am I mistaken?

  39. Geralt of Rivia:
    Danny,

Interviews suggest conflict and it won’t end well. Their relationship will be over even if LF is killed. Hopefully he’ll meet Arya and Bran soon.

That would be extremely stupid. They want people to hate Sansa that much? I hope she’s smarter than that.

  40. Mihnea:
Hope we get a casting video, doubtful though.

Who’s left to cast, though? In terms of established characters (by the books), they’ve introduced pretty much everyone and those that haven’t been cast (Griff, Young Griff, Victarion) won’t join anymore.

The only one I can think of is Archmaester Marwyn. Sarella Sand is an option, but to what end, really?

  41. Strange how they called Miguel Sapochnik “Michael” in the press release, right? I always see his name presented as “Miguel,” and I’ve taken to calling him that since I’m never sure how to spell “Sapochnik.” I’m fairly devastated that neither he nor Bender are directing next season, particularly Miguel who has directed the very top three rated (IMDb) shows in Game of Thrones, with only four episodes to his credit. That’s a ridiculously awesome track record.

  42. Dutch Maester: Who’s left to cast, though? In terms of established characters (by the books), they’ve introduced pretty much everyone and those that haven’t been cast (Griff, Young Griff, Victarion) won’t join anymore.

The only one I can think of is Archmaester Marwyn. Sarella Sand is an option, but to what end, really?

I’m hoping we’d see a glimpse of Rhaegar! Of course, there’s no way they’d show this in a casting video.

  43. Over/under on the amount of times Sophie Turner is asked if she thinks Sansa will marry Jon?

  44. RBloodworth:
I hope that Sapochnik being there is a good omen that he’ll return for Season 8, but I’m not holding my breath there.Didn’t Alex Graves show up for the post-Season 4 panel, or am I mistaken?

I doubt anyone even knows. Technically, HBO hasn’t even approved a S8. All we know is that he’s doing Iron Fist for Netflix this year, followed by a feature.

  45. orange:
Over/under on the amount of times Sophie Turner is asked if she thinks Sansa will marry Jon?

I think she’ll be asked about who Sansa trusted more – Jon or LF, not whether or not Sansa and Jon will marry. There are insinuations of tension and conflict between these sibs/cousins so fans might ask about that. Sansa’s arc next season may be about making a choice as to who to side with (Jon or LF). We’ll then see how much Sansa has grown as a character based on her choice.

  46. Aryamad:
    Flayed Potatoes,

Now that I think about it I kinda wish Aiden was there as well. Has he ever been to a GoT panel? I can’t remember.

Did you see his red carpet interviews at the premiere? I’m sure that’s why.

  47. Without Kit this will be just as boring as last year. But at least we get Iwan, Isaac, Liam and John Bradley.
