Opal and Destination Wedding

The fiance returned this week from his family vacation and fishing trip from La Paz in Mexico.

He brought me some neat presents.

The bracelet have opal stones on it. It’s the first time I’ve heard about these stones. After the fiance told me it was rare, I went ahead and looked it up and learned more about it here

“Opal stone history is quite interesting and controversial. While some believe that opal is a good luck stone, some societies attach ill luck and bad omens with the stone”

I don’t know if I believe in all of that, but I think the bracelet is pretty so that’s why I’m going to wear it.

Back with a vengeance this week. Oatmeal

The heat wave is gone, so hot oatmeal is back in my life. I’ve been enjoying it with my homemade coconut granola. Lots of crunch.

Oh I’ve missed you my fishy cup.

I’m trying out mixing different kind of oats. This morning’s oats is 3/4 steel cut oats and 1/4 rolled oats. I like the chewiness.

Wedding Planning update:

We are getting closer on deciding the location. If it all works out, lets just say a year from now, I will be here 🙂

I’m so excited.

I’m hoping to do a giveaway this week so stay tuned.

Would you want to do a destination wedding? Have you been to a destination wedding? Where?  As you can see from the pictures above, we are planning for a destination wedding. Picking the location was time consuming but now that it is down to a few locations, it is becoming more real and I can’t wait to travel again.

Comments

  1. Yep, I’ve been to destination weddings … a great one was in Xcaret Mexico..so lovely!

And, as you know I planned my friend’s upcoming wedding in Kauai 😉

    • Lots of great locations in Mexico.

You did a great job on your friend’s wedding and such a good budget. Will definitely recommend you if anyone I know is considering Hawaii for destination wedding.

  2. My friend is having a destination wedding in about a year! I love the idea of having a destination wedding but I think it would be too stressful for me to plan a wedding remotely. I have a type A personality and would probably want to see everything in person.

    • I’m part of this wedding forum where all the brides can discuss their destination weddings. It’s perfect for Type A personalities because past brides are very helpful and give you ideas and will show you the way. Everyone has a planning thread also where you can read the step by step planning of a wedding. The vendors have reviews from past brides.

  3. I wish Jason and I had had a destination wedding — it just sounds so romantic and wonderful. I’ve never been to one either!

I think that bracelet is so beautiful!

  4. Katie says:

Cool!! Destination weddings would definitely be fun but I think I would regret not getting married in my hometown. By the way – super cute mug!

    • We’re trying to have the best of both worlds. A destination wedding with close friends and family with us. Then do a wedding reception in our hometown for all our friends and the rest of our relatives.

  5. I wish I could have had a destination wedding but my parents and in-laws wanted to invite the entire universe so it was basically out of the question.

My brother talks about a destination wedding in Tokyo and I can’t wait. The only problem is that he doesn’t even have a girlfriend right now. So it might be a while!

  6. Wow and beach wedding. Looks fantastic!

I’ve always thought I would like to get married abroad with just few friends and family members and spontaneously 🙂

  7. That bracelet is so cute! And it’s too pretty to be bad luck. Let’s just go with that… 🙂

I never thought to combine steel cut and rolled? That’s a great idea!

    • Hi Amy,

It’s a good combo if you like hearty and thick oatmeals.I like it. I cook the steel cut oats first (mine takes 20mins) and then put the rolled oats towards the end.

  8. I wouldn’t have one – I think they’re beautiful and have been to a couple, but me and Austin really wanted our family/close friends to be able to make it and for some travel, cash flow, etc., just made it impossible. 😦 We do enjoy traveling though and I love it when I’m vacationing and meet couples that are there to get married!

  9. Maria @ Kale and Cupcakes says:

You have a super thoughtful fiance! That location looks gorgeous! If I COULD go back I’d do a destination wedding, too! : )

  10. Great blog, I’m glad you found me so I found you! I love your photos. I just got back from a trip to Maui and the beaches were so great. The only destination wedding I’ve been to was also in Hawaii and it was really romantic and beautiful.

  11. I really like the idea of destination weddings, but I feel like it’ll be difficult to get all your friends and families to the location.

I hope everything works out for you though. Your fiance sounds wonderful!

  12. I think I’d like a destination wedding–romantic and an adventure/
