Some good reporting in the Emerald

I know there have been a lot of posts here about the Craig Macfie fatality. But if you are interested in this case, I would call your attention to a pair of nicely reported stories in the Oregon Daily Emerald: one by Colton Totland on Macfie; and one by Becky Metrick on Patrick Compton, the motorist who is charged with hitting Macfie. They have some new details about the events leading up to the collision and comments from a student who was friends with both of them.

    1. Thanks, Kevin, for the link. I see that the article also reports that one of Macfie’s close friends say he didn’t have lights on his bike. And while I’m all for lights when riding at night, I do harbor some doubts that it would have made a difference in this case. I have some other thoughts about riding late at night — hope to get a post up in the next few days.
