The Wall Of Night Series Map
It is a truth universally acknowledged that Fantasy literature readers generally, and Epic Fantasy lovers in particular, *heart* maps.
So far, I only have one broad brush map for The Wall of Night series world of Haarth, but a reader was inquiring about it recently and the relative locales of the Derai and the Swarm — think “here be dragons” and “beyond the edge of the map” for the latter — so I thought I’d post the Wall series map again in as large from as da blog will accommodate without distortion. π
But it “is” beautiful — I still love artist Peter Fitzpatrick’s work as much as I did the first time I saw “the map.”!
So ‘ere it be: Enjoy. π
Wonder what the other side looks like. It is an unusual world, no doubt, since it seems to be just one massive continent.
Any hint about the Chaos Gate publication? We are very eagerly waiting for it.
I always think of this round map as being the one inlaid on Malian’s table.
I am going to reply to you together, ‘Mostly Mondays’ and Kristen B, because there is overlap between your comments. π
So firstly, you’re quite right, Kristen — the map “is” meant to reflect the tabletop map described in ‘The Heir of Night’, so in terms of your observation, Mostly Mondays, reflects the Derai’s-Eye view of the world, and/or what they know about it. But as we know, the Derai have never really bothered to find out that much about the world beyond their interest in it, so the map should not necessarily be construed as encompassing the entirety of the world. When remembering that Ishnapur is the remnant and/or residue of the Old (pre Derai & Swarm) Empire, I suspect the scholars and magi there may know more about what lies on “the far side of the world.” I am fairly certain, though, that exploring their libraries and investigating their knowledge base, may be part of another story…
With respect to your query regarding WALL#4, Mostly Mondays, I regret that it is still some way away, largely owing to personal circumstances that have taken their toll of book writing time over the past few years. However, work is progressing steadily and ‘the conditions’ are now on a more even keel so I hope to be able to give readers a more definite prognosis soon. And otherwise can only apologise for the wait, which I feel as keenly as my readers. π
Thanks for the update … am glad conditions have improved!
Thank you, Kristen. π
