It’s time for the monthly market update. Here are some places to submit your stories and pitches. As always, a gentle reminder: I’m sharing these markets, not endorsing them. Please read the complete guidelines and always do your homework before submitting your work to any market.

Afterimage is a non-profit journal produced bimonthly by the Visual Studies Workshop and pays for features and essays about media arts. They describe themselves as a hybrid news magazine/academic journal.

Remember all those “List” ideas I’ve tossed out as assignments and prompts? There’s actually a market that pays for lists! Listverse pays $100 for original lists. Visit the site to find out what they favor.

Lore is a market for short science fiction, fantasy, and horror between 2,000 and 6,000 words. They do NOT take simultaneous or multiple submissions. Pays .05 per word via check or paypal.

I ran across this one by accident, and I haven’t had time to fully explore the site. WeGotThisCovered.com looks like they are in the market for some bloggers on an ongoing basis. They cover movies, television and gaming and look for writers who can contribute 2-3 daily posts. I’m not sure what they consider “non-competitive rates” or why one would bill that as a good thing… still, it might be worth investigating if you write that sort of thing regularly.

According to Llewellyn’s website, “Llewellyn is the oldest and largest publisher specializing in books for body, mind, and spirit. We accept submissions directly from authors (including first time authors) and from literary agents.”

They look for nonfiction how-to and self-help material, and they accept proposals or completed manuscripts. Read the full guidelines for submission details.
