With Christmas just a few days away, I thought it would be good to stop and answer the question… “Why did God send Christ into this fallen world?”
“He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?”
THE SCRIPTURES:
Isa 61:1-3 KJV
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
THE STUDY:
In Isaiah 61:1, we find God’s calling of Christ to His ministry…
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me
This Messianic prophecy is given from the viewpoint of Christ. Christ explains that the Spirit of God resided on Him to empower Him in His God-given ministry.
He goes further and explains when He received the enabling presence of the Spirit into His life. It was when He was anointed with the Spirit at His baptism (Matthew 3:16).
This ministry of Christ has three very basic aspects to it, the first aspect of His ministry we find in…
to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
Aspect #1 – To Proclaim Cheerful News To The Needy (Lost) – “to preach good tidings unto the meek;”
This aspect of Christ’s ministry led Him:
To bandage those whose hopes have been destroyed – he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
To announce freedom for those who are enslaved – to proclaim liberty to the captives,
To release those who were imprisoned – and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
The second aspect of His ministry we find in…
To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;
Aspect #2 – To Proclaim The Coming Days of Grace and Day Of The Judgment Of God – “To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God;”
The third aspect of His ministry we find in…
To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
Aspect #3 – To Console Those Who Are Sorrowful (Saved) – “to comfort all that mourn;”
This aspect of Christ’s ministry led Him:
To commit blessings to those who are sorrowful in His nation – To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion,
To commit ornaments instead of ashes – to give unto them beauty for ashes,
To commit the perfumes of joy instead of cries of sorrow – the oil of joy for mourning,
To commit clothing of praise for heaviness of spirit – the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
These three aspects to His ministry worked together in harmony to fulfill 2 goals…
that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
2-Fold Goal Of Christ’s Ministry:
The Salvation/Growth of His People – … be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD
The Honor And Glory Of His Heavenly Father- that he might be glorified.
THE SUMMARY:
Christ, as He proclaimed the gospel to the lost; proclaimed the coming days of grace and the final judgment of God; and consoled those who were sorrowful for their sins and the condition of the world around them; secured the salvation of His people and enhanced their spiritual growth.
All of this was done so that His Heavenly Father might be glorified in the eyes of men!
During this Christmas season, may we all bring our praise and honor to Him… the One that was sent by God to be the Savior of the world…
1Jn 4:14 KJV- And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
May the Lord bless you as you seek His truth.
