Four Simple Ways to LOVE Your Home

If January is all about fresh starts and new beginnings, then February is about love and passion. Sure, Valentine’s Day is next week, but why should romance be limited to just one day?

Set a stage for romance today by creating a loving ambiance in your home. And it’s not just a romantic gesture for your spouse, partner, or family. It’s also a love letter to your home as well.

1. Declutter visible spaces

You may have put away all the holiday decorations last month. But if you are like me, there are still a few things lingering. Now is the time to take a quick audit of the common areas that are visible to guests. Don’t worry about closets or drawers. Concentrate on open spaces such as the living room, dining room, and guest room.

Fun Tip: I take “before and after” pictures of my rooms. I don’t show it to anyone. It’s my acknowledgement of my hard work.

2. Create a welcoming entrance

I don’t have one of those houses that has a “wow” factor. It’s a pretty simple front door by most house standards. But it doesn’t make my home less special. You can still create a pretty amazing entrance with color and attention to details.

I just had to include this picture because my dog, Chester is so camera-shy.

Fun tip: Plants in containers do wonders for an entrance. You can switch them out to highlight the season. For example, use colorful flowers in the spring and evergreen in the winter.

3. Add comfort

Never underestimate how much comfort a few pillows and an area rug will bring to your home. If you have hardwood floors, your feet will love the softness of an area rug. If you have wall-to-wall carpeting, you can still layer an area rug for added comfort. Area rugs also define your space by framing your room with its shape and color. Don’t be afraid to add bold, patterned pillows to your seating area. It’s playful and welcoming.

Fun tip: Pillows with words are so charming and add engaging character to your room.

4. Add personal touches

After all, nothing says love more than personal photos and heirloom treasures. I am so fortunate to have a few keepsakes from my grandparents before they passed away. Instead of keeping them tucked away in a shoebox, take out your mementos as a daily reminder of the love of family and friends.

Fun tip: Another way to add personal touches to your home is to make your own tea towel.

I took a picture of my grandmother’s recipe card and uploaded it to spoonflower.com to have it transferred to linen. I stitched the edges to finish the project. It’s so special, I made 10 more for my relatives as gifts.
