Spotlight (2015)

US 129m, Colour
Director: Tom McCarthy; Cast: Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, Liev Schreiber, John Slattery, Stanley Tucci

spotlightSpotlight is a dark biographical drama about the work of the Boston Globe newspaper to expose the Catholic Church’s cover-up of thousands of child abuse cases in the Boston area. This is a well-acted concise film that is almost documentary like in its detail, and as the closing credits frighteningly remind us, this story was only a small part of a world-wide scandal. Spotlight also serves as a reminder of the importance of investigative journalism, which is increasingly being replaced by the court of public opinion through social media (Klaus Ming January 2016).
