What authors and books are you most thankful for?

There are several authors whose books I eagerly await publication:
Sir Terry Pratchett
I first read Pratchett in the summer of 1992, when I picked up a copy of The Carpet People while on a family holiday in the Lake District. From there, I went straight on to visit the Discworld, starting with Reaper Man (I then back and read them all in publication order) and although I’m not very keen on the first two, or Eric, I’ve loved the rest. He just keeps getting better and better!
Kelley Armstrong
I came to the Women of the Otherworld series right at the start with Bitten when it was first published, and eagerly awaited anything else Armstrong cared to write. I’ve now read 10 of the 11 WotOW books, both the Nadia Stafford books, and two of the Darkest Powers books (with the latest ones on my wish list), as well as all the online fiction from her website, the associated collections and the novella, Angelic. I adore her work – its pure escapism!
Christopher Brookmyre
When it comes to pitch-black humour, it’s practically impossible to beat Brookmyre. His books are thrilling to the extreme, with fantastic crime capers and wonderful witticisms. His new releases are always immediately put to the top of my wish list and I get hold of them as soon as possible, whether it’s for my birthday, for Xmas, or because I specifically went to the book shop to buy them!
Simon Scarrow
I adore historical fiction, especially the Tudor and Roman periods. Scarrow hits the mark with my Roman fixation. His novels are meticulously researched and one cannot fail to get sucked into the action and really care about his characters. I’ve not yet read his Revolution series (set in the Napoleonic wars), but I have the first three on my shelf waiting for me to pick them up!
Stuart MacBride
Really great crime fiction is something I always like to get my hands on, but when it’s set in the town where I live and I recognise all the locations, it makes it even more thrilling. Add to that the gritty realism of MacBride’s writing and you have a winning combination! I even liked his futuristic crime thriller set in Glasgow (under the name of Stuart B MacBride), despite not knowing that city very well, as his style is so unmistakable and his books unmissable!

Not familiar with any of them, except for Pratchett. The one who writes Roman historical fiction sounds fascinating.
Scarrow is great. I found him by accident, would you believe?! The first book in the Roman series was by the counter in Waterstones for 99p and I thought, “Why not? It’s only a quid!” and popped it onto the pile of books I was buying. I was back in there a few days later buying the next couple of books in the series – LOL!
Women of the Otherworld sounds like a fascinating series to read. I’ve never heard of any of these authors. I am intrigued by Kelly Armstrong and will have to look for her at the library. Thank you for sharing!!
