Really Big Blackbirds!

The motorhome is parked at Thousand Trails Soledad Canyon RV Resort in Acton, California.

Mary continues to be occupied with personal business. I am now not expecting to see her again until I arrive at her home in Murphys, California about the third week in April. It’s just the way things are and we just have to deal with it.

I’m now in what I’m calling my “pacing mode”. Last October I had cataract surgery at the VA Hospital in Palo Alto, California. My surgeon wants me back in mid-April for a six-month post-operative eye examination. Palo Alto is only about 400 miles from my current location. So, in the meantime, I’ll “pace” my forward direction travels hoping stay in 65-75 degree temperatures all the while.

Yesterday I showed a big black bird which I have finally decided is a large black crow. I did that as a preview, because I knew today I’d be showing you some REALLY BIG BLACKBIRDS!

Yesterday I drove the Bronco the 20 miles to the Blackbird Airpark in Palmdale, California which opened in November, 1991. It is the world’s only display of a Lockheed SR-71A and its Blackbird predecessor, the A-12, alongside the once ultra-secret D-21 drone and the only remaining U-2D Dragon Lady.

Here are some photos that I took…

Here is the SR-71…the largest Blackbird…

I was intrigued by how really large this bird is…

It’s incredible that something so large can go so fast. A SR-71 set a world speed record of 2,144.82 (average) when it flew from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. in 64 minutes on March 6, 1990.

Makes a person wonder what’s in use today!

Enjoying 65-75 degree temperatures with low humidity most of the year is a primary joy in the RVing lifestyle!
