Archos, APK installer and Rooting
APK installer is not required on the Archos Tablets, as I learned when working with “Files” on the Archos tablet. Tapping the .apk file will start and install it. Rooting the Archos Tables
After rooting
After Rooting your phone, you can:
- Start using your phone for Tethering (there are applications that claim to be able to do it without rooting as well)
- Find and copy the downloaded .apk files (Android executables) and move them to other devices using RootExplorer
- Install optimized versions of the OS on your device like the CyangenMod (only for a limited set of phones – read the list carefully on the CyangenMod) offering:
- Speed optimization – due to the removal of vendorware – stuff you do not need, but is running in the background anyway
- Multi-touch – via the CyangenMod
- Direct access to your USB-port – and the ability to do serial communication to other devices like Arduino boards as a Host.
- Relocate your .apk files to the SD-card – using a Shell-script referred to as Apps2SD allowing you to clear up local space and can store and run more applications
- Backup your .apk files to an FTP server – (see product page here) to share them between devices (free applications mostly – licenced / bought might be bound to your machine)
- Backup the files on your phone, including your SMSes –
