Top Ten Books I Think Would Make Great Book Club Picks

I interpreted this topic to be books that are thought-provoking and welcome discussion… so these are my picks!

  1. The Help by Kathryn Stockett <– This book has topped many of my lists, and I feel it’s such a fantastic book that encourages discussion as well as sharing in the great moments within the pages!
  2. A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini <– I loved The Kite Runner, and this second book by Hosseini is just as amazing, if not moreso!
  3. Room by Emma Donoghue <– A discussion-worthy intense/disturbing read
  4. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green <– Having just finished this, and reviewed it yesterday, this is definitely a fantastic book for any age to read.
  5. Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin <– An interesting conversation topic starter, about whether the events that unfold are justified or not.
  6. Lamb by Christopher Moore <– A fun and entertaining read, to lighten the mood on previous darker subject matters!
  7. The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger <– A great romantic read, with a twist of time traveling would be a great conversation topic.
  8. One Day by David Nicholls <– So the book club can gripe together about the frustrating Dex!
  9. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern <– A magical, fantastical entertaining read for a group
  10. Lullabies for Little Criminals by Heather O’Neill <– A dark story, about a young girl bordering between being a child and a grown up while falling into the dirty street life.

  1. Oh, I just finished The Fault In Our Stars, too. I loved it! I think it would be so great for a book club, too. There’s so much in it to discuss: Love, fate, the treatment of sick people, how it makes you want to go to Amsterdam…or at least it did for me.

Anyway, I also like your choice of Something Borrowed. I’ve read that, but it didn’t pop into my head immediately when I was thinking of book club books. You’re right, though, it could make for a good discussion. In fact, a friend and I were just talking about it the other day, and she said she thought all the characters were totally despicable, whereas I sort of sympathized with Rachel.

I haven’t read Room, but I’ve been meaning to for awhile.
Anyway, great list! Here’s mine: http://julie999.blogspot.com/2012/01/top-ten-tuesday-books-for-book-clubs.html

  2. I agree with many of your choices! I had The Help and I think that Room would definitely make a great discussion starter. Same with Something Borrowed, because it’s pretty divisive given how you feel about cheating, etc. The Night Circus and The Fault in Our Stars are both on my TBR list and I want to get to them both asap

  3. Great list of books. I really liked A Thousand Splendid Suns. I still have to get The Fault in Our Stars. I just haven’t gotten it because I know I don’t have time to read it, but I want to. I have heard nothing but awesome things about it. I don’t do a top ten, but here’s my TT

  4. Great list! I’m jealous that you’ve finished TFIOS. Mine’s sitting on my book shelf mocking me because I have library books that must be read first :/

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and subscribing! I hope you’ll enjoy it 🙂
