Hallo Ihr Lieben,

auf unserer kleinen „Weltreise“ sind wir von den Seychellen aus zum Kruger Nationalpark – Südafrika! 🙂

The 3rd stop of our small „world trip“ was the Kruger National Park – Southafrica! 🙂

Nach nur knapp 5 Stunden Flug sind wir in Johannesburg gelandet (Nach 14 und 18 Stunden kamen uns die 5 Stunden super schnell vor 😀 ). Dort haben wir uns direkt am Flughafen einen Mietwagen genommen und sind zum Park gedüst. Die Strecke ist ganz schön, allerdings ziehen sich die 5 Stunden Fahrt schon etwas. Auf der Strecke kamen wir an 2 Maut-Stationen mit den unfreundlichsten (!) Mitarbeiterinnen überhaupt vorbei 😀 Wir wollten mit Kreditkarte zahlen und bekamen nur die patzige Antwort „Not accepted“ – obwohl dort große Schilder stehen auf denen steht, dass sie auch Kreditkarten akzeptieren. Die guten Damen gehen nur ungern das Kreditkarten-Zahlungsgerät holen. Einfach hart bleiben und warten bis sie es dann doch tun (wir hatten sowieso kein Bargeld 😛 )
Alternativ kann man von Johannesburg auch zum Park fliegen, was nur knapp 45 Minuten dauert – spart Zeit, aber kein Geld !

The flight from the Seychelles to Johannesburg took only 5 hours (after 14h and 18h the 5h felt so short :D). At the airport we rented a car and headed to the National Park. The trip is really beautiful – we just love the southafrican landscape – but the 5-hours-drive after a 5-hours-flight was pretty hard. We had to pay toll on the highway (2 times) and the staff there was the most unfriendly staff ever !!! (We had to pay about 5€ but had no cash so we wanted to pay by credit card – the snotty answer: „NOT ACCEPTED!!“) Fortunately there were many signs which showed that credit cards are valid for payment. The women inside the toll counters were just too lazy to get the payment-device. Just stay tough and wait until they do (we had no cash anyway :P).
Alternatively you can fly to the National Park (just a 45minutes-flight) – saves time but no money.

Endlich am Park angekommen wurden wir von einem Guide des Lion Sands Game Reserve empfangen, der uns zu unserer Unterkunft in den Park geführt hat. Denn: in der Dunkelheit ist es nicht erlaubt allein bzw. unbeaufsichtigt durch den Park zu fahren. An der Tinga Lodge selbst wurden wir wahnsinnig herzlich empfangen! Das Personal hat uns direkt unser Gepäck abgenommen, das Auto für uns geparkt und uns etwas zu trinken angeboten.

Finally arrived at the park entrance we were already expected by a Lion Sands Game Reserve Guide. He escorted us to the lodge, because no one was allowed to drive trough the park alone after 6pm. At the Tinga Lodge we were warmly welcomed and every staff member tried to make our arrival as comfortable as possible. They parked our car, got our luggage to our lodge and offered fresh drinks. 

Die Atmosphäre die uns dort erwartet hat ist schwer mit Worten zu beschreiben, eine Mischung aus Sauna Feeling, da die alles aus Holz war und der Kamin brannte aber gleichzeitig auch total exotisch. Die Bilder glaube ich sagen mehr als all meine Worte!! Es war so gemütlich dort einfach am Kamin zu sitzen und die Stille des Parks zu genießen. Ihr müsst wissen, die Lodge liegt MITTEN im Park, das heißt es kann gut sein, dass mal eine Horde Elefanten am Fenster vorbei spaziert 🙂 Wir wurden von unserem eigenem Butler zum Zimmer eskortiert, da es auch hier in der Dunkelheit nicht erlaubt ist, allein durch die Lodge-Anlage zu laufen, denn man kann nie wissen, ob man einem wilden Tier über den Weg läuft (spannend!! 😛 ).

It is pretty hard to describe the atmosphere just with words. (*.*) – it was a mix of sauna (because everything was made of wood and the fire was burning) and at the same time very exoctic. I think all the pics speak louder than my words 😉 It was soooo cosy just to sit next to the fireplace and enjoy the silence of the park. You have to know, the lodge is located INSIDE the park – so it could be possible to see some wild animals crossing the path next to your window! To our lodge we were escorted by our „private butler“ because even on the way there it was not allowed to go to the lodges alone (maybe some wild animals are waiting there 😉 so exciting!!).

Unsere Lodge in einem Wort? TRAUM! SO ein schönes, gemütliches, romantisches und gut-riechendes Zimmer haben wir noch nie gesehen, geschweige denn bewohnt. Ich habe mich reflexartig direkt auf das Bett geworfen, weil ich so K.O. von der Fahrt war und wollte nie wieder aufstehen. Ich habe mich gefühlt wie eine Prinzessin. Das Bett… keine Worte 🙂
Wir hatten noch ein bisschen Zeit, um uns vor dem Dinner etwas frisch zu machen. Die Dusche – war einfach keine normale Dusche, sondern ein ganzer Raum !! (der sogar verglast war, sodass wir freie Sicht in die Wildnis hatten). Als wir zum Dinner abgeholt wurden (na klar, bei Dunkelheit nur mit Begleitung 😉 ), waren wir noch total geflasht vom Zimmer…

Our lodge described with just one word: DREAM! We have NEVER ever stayed in such a cosy, romantic and good-smelling room before. I was so flashed that I had to jump onto the bed instantly! My fault: because of my tiredness I didn’t want to get up again 😛 . The bed…still have no words for it!!
Before dinner we had a few minutes to refresh. The shower? It wasn’t just a normal shower, it was an entire room with huge windows to watch the nature & wild animals! We were still so impressed when we were picked up by our guide (you already know: when it’s dark outside you need to be escorted) for dinner…

…da wussten wir aber noch nicht, was uns beim Dinner erwartet! Keine Buffet-Halle mit 100 Tischen. Auch kein à la Carte Restaurant, wie man es kennt. Uns wurde ein Tisch auf einer großen Holzveranda zugewiesen, nur beleuchtet von Kerzenlicht, unter freiem Sternenhimmel, bei schönster Musik, mitten im afrikanischen Busch, umgeben von maximal 5 weiteren Tischen (es gibt nur 9 Lodges, sodass generell alles sehr Privat war). Die Atmosphäre beim Dinner war mit Abstand die romantischste, die ich bisher erlebt habe.
Uns wurde ein 3 Gänge Menü serviert, zu dem ich wieder nicht viel sagen kann außer: PERFEKT.
Nach dem zweiten Gang irgendwann, wurde es plötzlich ganz ruhig (Ihr müsst wissen: Kev hatte an diesem Tag Geburtstag und das wusste das Personal natürlich auch). Das komplette Personal kam mit einer selbst gebackenen Torte aus der Küche singend auf uns zu. Mit „Happy Birthday“ und vielen traditionellen afrikanischen Geburstatgsliedern (inklusive Tanz!!!) haben sie Kev zum Geburtstag gratuliert 🙂 Uns (besonders Kev 😀 ) haben die Worte gefehlt. Ich hatte echt Tränen in den Augen, es war so so schön! Mein Geburtstagsständchen vom morgen war dagegen natürlich ein Witz haha 😀 . Wir haben die Torte mit all den Mitarbeitern geteilt, sie haben sich riesig gefreut – und Kev natürlich auch!!! Das hat den Abend mehr als abgerundet und uns die lange Anreise schnell vergessen lassen.

…but at that time we didn’t know what the dinner would be like! No buffet hall with 100 tables. No à la carte restaurant as you know it. We were assigned to a table on a wooden terrace, illuminated only by candle light, under a starry sky, with smooth acoustic music deep inside the south african bush, surrounded by 5 other tables (there are only 9 lodges so it was really private!). The atmosphere was by far the most romantic one I have ever sensed!
There are only a few words to describe the 3-course-dinner we had (again). One possible word: PERFECT.
During the dinner it suddenly got totally quiet (you should know: it was Kev’s birthday and the staff knew it). The whole staff came out of the kitchen. Singing and dancing to „happy birthday“ and other traditional african birthday songs they served a birthday cake and congratulated Kev. We (especially Kev 😀 ) didn’t know what to say. I had tears in my eyes – it was so very beautiful! My morning „happy birthday“ seemed like a joke compared to this 😀 We shared the cake with the whole staff which made them really happy – and Kev as well!!! This amazing dinner made us forget about our long and tiring journey.

Am nächsten Morgen um 5:30 Uhr wurden wir dann von unserem Guide geweckt, denn um 6:00 Uhr ging es los zu unserer ALLER ERSTEN Safari im Kruger National Park! Für unsere Safaris haben wir hier einen extra Blogpost für Euch gemacht 🙂 Bevor es losging haben wir uns mit Tee aufgewärmt und ein bisschen Obst gesnackt. (Morgens waren es wirklich nur 11 Grad – mittags wurden es 35 :O)

The next morning we got a wake-up-call at 5.30 am by our lovely guide, because at 6.00 am our very first safari started! We already wrote a special blogpost about the safaris over here 🙂 (many many pics and information). A few minutes before the safari started we were able to warm ourselves with yummy southafrican tea and snacks in the lobby. (It was sooo cold in the morning, just 11 degrees, but fortunately the sun came out it warmed up to 35 degrees). 

Gegen 9 Uhr kamen wir von der Safari zurück und hatten ein fantastisches Frühstück. Das Personal hat es uns an nichts fehlen lassen. Einen Service wie hier, hatten wir bisher noch NIE!!!
Die nächste Safari stand erst um 16 Uhr an, sodass wir den ganzen Tag für uns hatten. Ein Glück hatten wir super Wetter 🙂 Wir konnten auf unserer Veranda (mit eigenem Pool *.* ) die Sonne genießen und relaxen, während ab und zu ein paar Antilopen an unserer Veranda vorbei kamen 🙂

We came back from the safari around 9.00 am and the breakfast was ready to be served. The service staff was sooo friendly. Right from the first second they always made sure that we didn’t lack a thing. We never had a service like that before!
Because the next safari started at 4.00 pm and fortunately the weather was just great we decided to spend a little time at our veranda (with a private pool *.*). Sometimes some antelopes passed by – it was so exciting !! 🙂

Direkt neben dem Kruger Nationalpark gibt es noch einen weiteren Park: das Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Damit wir auch diesen mal gesehen haben, haben wir die Lodge gewechselt und sind in die River Lodge umgezogen. Diese gehört auch zum Lion Sands Game Reserve und liegt noch tiefer im Park. Auch hier haben wir an mehreren Safaris (bzw. Game Drives) teilgenommen – und dabei einiges erlebt! (Hier geht’s zum Safari-Post)

Next to the Kruger Nationalpark there is another national park: the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Because we wanted to visit this park as well we changed into the River Lodge which is located deep inside the park. Here, too, we joined some safari trips (Game Drives) and experienced a lot of new adventures! (Click here for our Safari-Post)

Die Lodge dort war etwas kleiner als die Tinga Lodge, aber trotzdem ebenso schön 🙂 Wir hatten ein Zimmer mit Blick auf den Sabi-River, kostenlose Nutzung der Minibar und auch hier sind die Tiere an unserer Veranda vorbei spaziert. Der Service und das Essen hier standen dem in der Tinga Lodge in absolut nichts nach! Einziger Unterschied: hier gab es deutlich mehr Lodges und damit auch mehr Gäste, war also nicht ganz so privat und exklusiv, wie die Tinga Lodge 😉

Our Lodge over there was a little bit smaller but still as beautiful as the the Tinga Lodge. We had a room with a perfect view over the Sabi-River. The minibar was full of sooo many good things – which were all included 🙂 I really loved the veranda and its view because sometimes animals passed by. Concerning service and food the River and the Tinga Lodge both are just world-class-level! The only difference: at the River Lodge there were more Lodges and because of that more guests so it wasn’t as private and exclusive as the Tinga Lodge 🙂

Wir hatten eine wunderschöne und absolut unvergessliche Zeit im Lion Sands Game Reserve. DAS muss definitiv auf jede Bucketlist – Stay & Safari mit Lion Sands im Krüger National Park. Diesen Aufenthalt werden wir NIE NIE NIE vergessen – es waren absolut PERFEKTE Tage.
Falls ihr irgendwann nicht wisst, wohin in euren Flitterwochen und keine Lust auf den klassischen Beach-Honeymoon habt: definitiv in die Tinga Lodge! Auch wenn es nicht die klassischen Flitterwochen sind, die Erfahrungen dort sind es in unseren Augen wert! DIES WAR EINER DER SCHÖNSTEN STOPS AUF UNSERER WELTREISE!!

We had a wonderful and absolute unforgettable time at Lion Sands Game Reserve. THIS definitely has to be on everyone’s bucketlist – stay & safari with Lion Sands at the Kruger National Park. We will never ever forget this perfect stay.
If you eventually do not know where to got for your honeymoon and don’t wanna go to the beach : you definitely have to stay at the Tinga Lodge! Even if it wouldn’t be the common honeymoon – in our opinion the experiences we gained over there are definitely worth it! THIS WAS ONE OF THE BEST STOPS ON OUR TRIP AROUND THE WORLD.
