ABUJA-A non-profit organization, Green Heart Impact Foundation (GHIF) has reiterated its commitment to the eradication of child-hawking in Nigeria through the provision of qualitative education to vulnerable children, particularly the girl-child.

Child Labour
Founder and President of GHIF, Munirat Suleiman Tanimu stated this in Abuja at the first Gala night of the foundation at the weekend.

Munirat who said she was moved by the plight of the girl child noted that education remain the guarantee to a prosperous future; hence her determination to ensure that the girl child gets the best in life other than the procreation of children.

“We must rise up and help the girl child realize her huge potentials. I believe one of the best ways to do this is to give her a good education. The lack of money should not be a reason to marry off our girls without giving them a good education,” she said.

Also speaking at the gala night, Sheefa Zarma, in a poetic rendition tagged, “Dear Baby Girl,” charged government, individuals and the society at large to invest in the girl child, stressing that until no barriers are placed in the way of the girl, the gulf in gender inequality would continue get wider.

“Dear baby girl,” she began, “No mountain is too high, no task too difficult. You are you and what you set out to do; believe you can and it will be done.”

The foundation also said it is challenging the girl child to choose books over tray (a tool for hawking) because everywhere, education has constantly remain the key to the liberty of the mind and spirit.

Eminent personalities at the event included the European Ambassador to Nigeria, Michel Arrion, Swedish Ambassador to Nigeria, Svante Kilander and chairman of the Nigeria Hajj Commission, Barrister Mukhtar Mohammed, among others.
