FOR appointing one of his subjects as the new Deputy Governor of the State, the Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Baba Umar Farouk II has passed a vote of confidence on the Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar just as he commended the Governor for the numerous infrastructural development projects in the critical health, education, water and road sectors, some of which he said have been completed and awaiting commissioning while others are ongoing across the state.

The Emir who made the statement on Tuesday when led the people of Katagum Emirate on Sallah homage to the Government House, Bauchi said that the Governor has fulfilled his promises to the people of the Emirate.

“The road projects undertaken by your administration in Azare and other parts of my Emirate have not only beautified Azare town but have remarkably reduced accidents that have been claiming people’s lives for a long time. We, therefore, appeal to you to look into the rehabilitation of some other township roads in Azare to reduce the cases of flooding that have been recurring during rainy seasons,” the Emir said.

The Emir added that “I am sure Your Excellency is not aware of the state of the General Hospital, Azare, which has been working without the necessary equipment and conducive environment befitting a hospital, particularly power generating sets”.

“This sorry state of the most important state-owned hospital has forced our people in Azare to resort to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare that is beyond the reach of the common man,” the Emir lamented.

The Emir, however, applauded the Governor for appointing Architect Audu Sule Katagum as the new Deputy Governor and stressed that the new Deputy Governor “is an experienced, loyal and trustworthy person to work with,” saying the appointment was done to them in Katagum Emirate”.

The Emir said that the Governor has shown concern to the plight of victims of the Azare fire incidence, and applauded him for “offering the victims 1,000 bags of rice, 1,000 bags of millet and 1,200 gallons of oil as immediate relief material to alleviate their sufferings before real assessment of their situation was completed.”

The Emir further stated that, “We are aware of the efforts you are to making to temporarily relocate the market before the commencement of reconstruction, which you plan to do to the market with modern facilities that befit markets of modern cities,” and revealed that over 90 million naira has been realized as assistance from individuals and corporate bodies to the fire victims”.
