Together Pangea Rocks Out Paper Tiger

If I’ve learned anything from Ghostbusters, it’s that when somebody asks you if you’re a god, you say yes. This same logic led me to say yes when a pretty girl asked me if I had heard Together Pangea. While I had heard of Together Pangea, I had never actually listened to them. I mistook their name as a reference to emo pioneers Breaking Pangea and assumed they sounded similar. While that wouldn’t have been a bad thing, I was pleasantly surprised when I looked them up and found that they have a more raw sound. Reminiscent of Black Lips earlier stuff, Together Pangea has a sound that combines elements of 60s beach rock with an unnerving punk rock intensity. We caught them as they destroyed the stage at Paper Tiger Wednesday night. As I’ve gotten older I’ve become more stubborn about seeing new bands live, but there were no regrets as they rocked through their set and had me bouncing along to every song. It was the first time in quite a while I watched a band that I only knew two songs from and enjoyed the show start to finish. It was a testament to their live show and performance, but the fact that they threw in a brief cover of “Zombie” by The Cranberries doesn’t hurt.
