Already Amazing

As you have seen I typically do not share book reviews on the blog.  Recently I have had the gift of being on several launch teams.  One book that I just must share is Holley Gerth’s devotional “Do You Know You’re Already Amazing?”  The book looks at 30 lies we believe, and then gives you promises to cling to that will help you to fight that lie.  Since the book is all about confronting the deceptions of the enemy I knew that I needed to share it with you.

Believe the Truth

A short example from Day 1:  The Lie :I’m Invisible

Emma pauses, and the lies she’s fought many times in life drifts to the surface of her mind: I’m invisible.

If Hagar could have heard Emma’s thoughts she would have nodded in understanding. Although she lived thousands of years ago, her duties also included lots of work and little appreciation.

Hagar fled to the desert out of desperation. She must have felt alone, overlooked, and deeply concerned for her unborn child. No one understood all she’s been through and what she’d had to do. Then an angelic visit where words of hope were spoken and Hagar “gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: You are the God who sees me’, for she said ‘I have now seen the one who sees me'”

Sometimes our lives can feel like we’re in the middle of a desert alone. The work we have to do seems as abundant as the sand. We’re thirsty for affirmation and a little recognition. Feelings of being overlooked and unappreciated pile up like dunes (or piles of laundry) in our souls. We wonder if our lives even matter. Yet in those overlooked places, God comes to us and whispers, “I see you. I know your past, present, and future. There will never be a moment when I’m not watching over you.”

At the end of each devotion, there are questions to help you identify the lies in your life, where they started, and what truths you can stand on.  I can already see that this is a book that I will refer to again and again.  The best part is the book releases today.  You can order a copy at http://amzn.to/2aJxcIg or at your favorite bookstore!

  1. Thanks for sharing this, Deanna. It sounds like a great book- I’ll have to check it out. It’s so important to remind ourselves of truth to fight the lies, and I love the quote in the image you shared.
