Maybe it’s just me but Twitter seems conspicuously absent from the list. They probably have numbers a lot closer to wordpress.com and are much more comparable than ebay or amazon (which both treat all visits as customers rather than wordpress.com where the majority of visits are from readers who can view cached pages etc.)
Still an amazing number either way. You can be proud to have worked on the system that keeps all those pageviews loading fast with so few managers!
Fair point. Wikipedia lists them as 600+ with recent references. Crunchbase lists them as having 140 employees at the moment, per LinkedIn API, which doesn’t sound accurate.
Okay 600 is a lot more than 90, but it’s a full order of magnitude smaller than any of the other sites listed there, and only one order of magnitude bigger than wordpress.com.Does twitter get less than 45M unique monthly visitors? Seems hard to believe, especially if you consider the huge use of apps/api to access their content.
I’d say the similarity between Automattic and Twitter is probably a compliment to both :)
