I always try to be positive and to write useful, even funny postings. This posting, however, concerns one of my pet peeves.(Excuse the pun.) I am talking about Halloween costumes for cats.
Having lived in the past with a couple who did not go in for feline Halloween costumes, I previously had no personal experience with this odious custom. I had seen other animals wearing outrageous human clothing but I could smirk and go back to sleep. New Mommy, however, decided that I would look even more gorgeous with some Halloween attire. I am not disagreeing with the gorgeous part but I am concerned with my dignity.
Here are pictures of costumed cats. Adorable but the stateliness and majesty of our feline species is certainly affected.
.
Also, I wish to bring up the topic of CISCIS, Costume induced Sideways Cat Instability Syndrome. This concerns the tendency of cats to fall over sideways and lose their balance when wearing a costume. Most cat lovers have seen this but are not aware that it is a syndrome. Watch carefully the next time you force your furry baby to don a dress. He will not walk or even stand up. Do you want to contribute to your darling’s physical and emotional instability?
What’s this? Who is this marvellous creature? C’est moi! C’est beau! C’est Buddy Foster!
Oh. I’m sorry I got carried away. Costumes are wrong. No matter how adorable I look. No matter how enchanting, attractive, bewitching……… Let’s look at those photos again. Don’t YOU think they’re beautiful?

I am rooting fur you Buddy, costumes for pets are one of my pet peeves also. At least mommy
was tasteful in her choice of head adornment. Stay regal, stay royal, Halloween doesn’t last furever.

Oh Buddy-you are so cute!!! Realize that Mommy and others(myself included) dressed up at Hallowe’en so we actually looked silly!!!!

Oh Val, I wish I had seen you and Mommy in your costumes. But I may have been afraid. I ran from all the children at the door last night. Don’t forget to read the post tomorrow. I allowed Simon to do a guest post and he was nasty to me.

Love your blog. I’m a big cat lover too. Joan Pope told me about it. My husband has Facebook but I don’t but we both use the same email. I will look forward to following your blog

I agree, no costumes unless they enhance your dignity and beauty, as yours does!
Buddy, I am no cat-lover, but you know what, you are turning me into one. because you are showing me how cats think.

Cathy, you have made my day. To turn someone into a cat lover is the aim of every cat worth his kitty litter. I feel that my blog is worth it if it can do this. I appreciate your interest. Katie says Hello.

Dressophile. Maybe Buddy can address that term in his Mondays with Buddy post. Definition please.

Lol.. A term yours truly coined in a pet forum a few years ago..
Dressophile (noun): A once hidden personality disorder among pet owners brought into the spotlight with the advent of WordPress, Instagram, Pinterest ect.. The uncontrollable temptation to put loved pets into costumes of every imagination, no matter how much the pet whines, howls or mewes. Luckily for pet owners most pets just submit to this cruelty and still love their people.
Closet Dressophile (noun) : Those people who are secretly fans of the Dressophile’s handiwork and enjoy the pictures but won’t openly admit it..

Oh dear. I am a closet dressophile. I use photos from creative commons but succeed in dressing Buddy in only the simplest of costumes. This gives him a topic for next week’s Mondays with Buddy on wonderful words blog. Please let me know if you are aware of other cat words. Thank you so much.

I believe you are both ! Even a ribbon in the fur is a sign of the sickness. And Buddy was wearing pretty balls ! I do wonder what Buddy thought of that ! Does he have to worry now that his person is among the afflicted ? At least he knows he’s not alone, it’s a global affliction. It’s not a learned behavior either, its lurking in our genes. Just leave baby clothes and a buggy with a toddler in a room. The child will play with them or just ignore them. But, add a puppy or a kitten to the room and BAM !!! 8 out of 10 critters will be modeling the baby clothes and 6 out of 10 will be mercilessly riding in the buggy ! 😨
