A God-Anointed Ministry – by Rowena Thomas

Are you Truly Anointed for God's Service

Are you Truly Anointed for God’s Service

If we desire to serve God’s purpose in our generation, it’s a good desire, however, we must abide by the rules laid down in God’s Word, so that the devil won’t end up having the last laugh.

Scripture, presents us with 2 great examples in this regard. One being , Jesus our forerunner, who did not sin even once, and the other, the Apostle Paul, who was a sinner, just like us. As Scripture reveals the life and ministry of these two men , we will do well to learn from their examples in the following aspects on account of which they received an anointed Ministry from God Himself.

  1. Faithfulness in small things, in the hidden place, be it at home or in the work spot and their desire to overcome sin when no one was watching them. See Heb 5:7-10 and 1 Tim 1:12
  2. Submitting to imperfect authority. See Luke 2:51,52 and Acts 22:3
  3. Being willing to suffer patiently, under unreasonable authority, even when they were right. 1 Peter 2: 18-23, Acts 16:22-40

4.Being willing to fulfill all righteousness, even when it went against reason but was in accordance with God’s will and plan. Mathew 3: 13-17

With this background, the heavens were opened and John saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Jesus and a voice out of the heavens said,’ This is my beloved Son in whom I am well-pleased.’

With this stamp of approval from the Father, before Jesus started His anointed Ministry, He was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. Matthew 4: 1-11. From this we learn that we must also overcome the following temptations:

  1. Overcome the temptation to use our Spiritual God-given gifts to satisfy our own pressing needs.
  2. Overcome the temptation to use Spiritual blessings and privileges to gain honor for ourselves at the cost of being presumptuous and putting God to the test.
  3. Overcome the temptation to compromise and lower the standards of God’s Word, even just a little bit, in order to gain more people into the Church and so use wordly means of functioning that were not used by Jesus and His disciples.

Finally a work done for God must be initiated by Him and done according to His principles and for His glory alone. It should not originate from the bright ideas of man, like the building of the tower of Babel as in Genesis 11:3,4,9, but with prayer and fasting after seeking God’s face and will as in Acts 13:2-4.

If God has given us a desire to walk in the good works that He has already prepared for us, we must seek Him in prayer and without a doubt, He will open a door for us, which no man can shut, at His appointed time, in His appointed way, such that, when we stand before Him on the final day, He will not have to say to us, ’Depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’ Mathew 7:23

To sum up, we must always keep in mind that ‘a broken and contrite Spirit’, is of more value to God than doing the most effective ministry on earth, because this Spirit represents a ‘first-love relationship’ with the Lord. Revelation 2:4.

May each one of us receive the grace to enter into such a God – glorifying ministry. Amen.
