I liked Park Min-young (Remember–Son’s War) best in Healer, so it’s happy news that she’s planning to reunite with Healer PD Lee Jung-sub for his new drama Seven Day Queen, headed to KBS this summer. The sageuk romance tells the story of Queen Dangyeong of Joseon, who was crowned and deposed in one week’s time. If she signs on, it’ll be Park’s third drama with PD Lee (her first was Man of Honor), and she’ll play the title role. Up to play her two warring kings and love interests are Lee Jin-wook (Goodbye Mr. Black) and Jin Gu (Night Light).

The drama will be a retelling of the love story between King Jungjong who ruled Joseon in the early 16th century, and Queen Dangyeong who was his queen for a week. Park Min-young is up to play the queen, the daughter of the most powerful politician at the time, who will gain the affection and trust of the king. She dreams of an ordinary life where she gets to marry the man she loves and live happily, but regardless of what she wants, she’ll end up in a political love that ultimately makes her a tragic figure.

Lee Jin-wook has been offered the role of King Jungjong, half-brother of tyrant King Yeonsangun. As a prince he had to live as if dead, not doing anything and hardly breathing in case he was seen as trying to challenge Yeonsangun’s rule. After Yeonsangun was overthrown, Jungjong was made king, and he hoped to become a ruler who could do something for the world. Queen Dangyeong’s father was opposed to Jungjong’s enthronement and led a coup against him, which failed, but it led to Dangyeong’s expulsion from the palace after just seven days.

Jin Gu is up for the role of infamous tyrant Yeonsangun (who’s currently being portrayed by Kim Ji-suk in Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People). In this drama, he’ll be a sad king who is born with the world at his feet, but can’t win the heart of the woman he loves. He was bred to be king from birth, and dreams of a world where the king is the center of the universe.

The drama is based on the legend of the love story between King Jungjong and Queen Dangyeong, who longed for each other after she was ousted from the palace so suddenly. The king is said to have sighed every day as he looked at a mountain in her direction, which prompted her to place the skirt she wore in the palace on a rock on that mountain, so that he would recognize her and know that she loved him too. Ah, love and politics as bitter enemies. But isn’t that always the way in Joseon?

Seven Day Queen will follow Mystery Queen on Wednesdays and Thursdays in June.

Anyway I like both Park Min Young and Jin Gu (heard that Lee Jin Wook declined the role, too bad coz I liked him in Three Musketeers). Park had done few sageuk in the past, she is not my fav sageuk actress but better than inexperienced ones. Not sure with Jin Gu, I sometimes like him, sometimes not.lol.

He did well in Showdown. But Showdown was more like an indie sageuk, so it's probably not a good reference.
The problem with Jin Goo is, that there is this one typ of charakter he does extremly well. All other characters he is not bad with but he also doesn't shine. I loved him best in Ice Bar and All In.
That comment is not meant negative in any way. To be honest I have a soft spot for Jin Goo. He has such a swoonworthy voice! :)

Yea I love him but in sageuk no. Neither one of them would make me watch a sageuk cause they are in it.

I'm glad Seo Hyun Jin isn't in this because I'd rather see her in a more conventional sageuk where we need an actress who can really do it properly.

Hm, I would probably watch him in the childhood portion of a long run sageuk, if he would play a commoner. I think he fitted his part in Roaring Currents lookwise. (Actingwise Roarring Currents would be an even worse reference than Showdown, as it failed to utilize its whole great cast - Ryu Seung-ryeong, Choi Min-shik, Jo Jin-woong - all my favourite oppas... ;)).
But as Yeonsangun, no.

Argh, the problem with this casting news and the description is, that we can't even guess what kind of sageuk this is supposed to be!!!
To be honest, the Yeonsangun description at the moment sounds a little bit like "Yeonsangun living in love" to me and I'm quite sure I didn't want to watch that at all...

Problem for me is that I don't find King Jungjong interesting at all. I think we are looking at a puppet king and his fluffy love story.
I agree with you on Yeonsangun. I just can't get into sugarcoating the worst king Joseon ever had.
This is a role that someone like that gem of an actor Park Jung-min or Yoo Ah-in can do well portraying his royal unmatched evilness.

Now you said it, I think I am glad too Seo wasn't offered. I will wait for her to back with conventional sageuk. If possible let her pair with Lee Jun Ki or Jang Hyuk?

With these two casts (if it is true that Jin Wook declined), I hope the main male lead is the stronger sageuk actor. I love Jin Goo, but he is not for sageuk. But it won't harm if he want to do it.

Lee Joon Gi is more inclined to doing complex characters. Yongsangun was the king in The King and the Clown, wasn't he? I heard him say in one of the interviews that he wanted to play the eccentric and tyrant King, Yongsangun. But I think it's a character that is meant to be played in movie. I wish him to get to play that character in a movie one day.

here lies my dilemma.
i happened to be 101% Healerite, a staunch Changminer. if they pit JiChangWook's Beware OTW against MinYoung's Queen7Days, i will weep rivers... moreover. i am a total mess over YooSeungHo's tears...
these 2 months of torn between 3 dramas will see me a perfect ruin in health, wretch in emotion, drench in my own tears, ... i serously felt the terror and cruelty of 3 stations fighting this time.
how to choose between my Ultimate Ship (Changwook and Minyoung in Healer) and my Fav actor YSH.

but then, i will still find ways to watch all 3.
actually i have a solution, JiChangWook, pls quit Beware and jump on wagon for King JungJong, isn't JiChangWook's Empress Ki awesome. else, Park minYoung can deny Queen and be the lady in BewareofThisW.
i thought Dramabeans is a haven for Healer right> i don't believe i am the only one torn between MinYoung and Changwook in this.

MinYoung is perfect in saeguk, else how will China court her for Braveness of the Ming. (its a shame because of some politic stuff in the end keep delaying the airing )?

Park MinYoung has enough acting chop in her, to take on saeguk Melodrama.
and remember her Saeguk drama Ja-Myunggo, where she played Princess Rahee, a villain role. boy was she pretty. at the age of 30, yet her classy elegance can shame any kpop idol that turn on saeguk roles.

Ah so the story is about Jungjong's time as a prince with Yeonsangun in power to the former's coup d'état and reign. The plot makes better sense now.

Cannot help to compare with Kim Ji Suk, but I am fine with that. Both are good actors,.Based on synopsis. thw queen's character is like a normal woman who want to love and to be loved, maybe not something extraordinary. Now I think I can wait SHJ in aother sageuk role, as a badass empress or anythixng.

I hope the writer won't make the love triangle, because I want to see separate woman for Yeonsangun.

Hehehehe Not only dramaland but also in movies. I admire him for being hardworking and he is one of the few Korean actors who acts with no restrictions. He is not scared to go all out. The only thing I notice of him his interpretations of his characters are repetitive. I think maybe that is because he didn't have much time to think of the character he is playing.
