This poster is so well-made and beautiful. :) Koala has a nice writeup about KBS sageuk(y) posters too and it's such artistic eye candy. ♥

Blade and Petal one is still my favorite but this one wins because you KNOW that's Lee Junki hiding his pretty, badass self in the shadows. And you KNOW this is going to be a good drama, because LJK picks well!

Also, for one wild moment, I thought this news was about Song Jae Rim getting a drama and the "Oh my god, finally" meant: "Oh my god, finally that guy is cast and Mary will shut up now".

Not a big fan of Lee Junki, but I admire the fact that he chooses projects that are diverse and challenging.

I can't say the same for other popular actors though, who seem to go the "safe" route.

If I was to name names, a few would be..

Lee Min ho and Heirs...enough said.

Lee Seung Gi. I like him a lot but I wish he'd go less mainstream with his dramas. In fact a whole lot of his projects are so conventional, so I can't blame certain industry insiders to think he's too commercialized. Although, this might be his agency's last ditch efforts to solidify his standing before he goes to MS...and it doesn't help that it seems, his CF likeability is slowly dipping (for now at least).

Required fields are marked *

Lee Jun Ki always come up with a good project despite less recognition for his acting, I hope with new management, same agency with Moon Geun Young, he will receive award for his acting. Fighting.

To add one more name.. Kim Soo Hyun, he's good but I want MORE from him. Do some badass role like when he was in Giant.

Required fields are marked *

Acting awards doesn't seem directly depend on agencies. As we know, a sure thing is to win in rating battles.
KBS has the fairest results in year-end awards than other 2s so Lee Jun Ki has a high chance to be lucky this year with his always brilliant acting :D

0
2
reply

Required fields are marked *

I think it plays a role too. Maybe not much but if you look back during the award shows for TV/Movie those who are winning, normally from a big and established agency.

Talented actor/actress must have a back up from a big company. That is my opinion.

I hope he will earn an award for his acting for this drama, if not Top Excellence Male, Best Male for dramaseries is enough for me. Fighting!

p/s : Both MCW and PSH wins Top Excellence Male & Female for their performances in Princess's Man. So, here I am hoping. High hope there for this drama. Huhuhu.

Required fields are marked *

There's no category of Best actor award, top excellence & excellence for acting awards, in k-drama award ceremonies. The excellence is mostly for rookie actors or unpopular actors of rating-hit dramas. If Lee Jun Ki is considerd to be received awards, they would decide him for top excel or if Joseon Gunman's a big hit, daesang also possible.

Here's hoping KBS and LJK have a breakthrough great moment on Wed-Thu slot with Joseon Gunman ^__^

0

Lee Seung Gi's standing is pretty well solidified, virtually all his dramas have been hits so far even if I have no idea about the ratings for You're All Surrounded.

Interesting about the CF index dipping though, I thought that was where he was most popular/made the most of his scandal-free good boy image. (hell even when he did have a scandal, everyone approved of his choice of girlfriend, that's some star power there)

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

It dipped because 1) He didn't have new CFS airing at the time (he had 3 CFs on cable vs some people with double digits and was #6 on the list) 2)He wasn't doing anything.

If you've watched that list it goes up and down and he's gone up and down, but he usually ends up back on top eventually. Last year he took over #1 from Suzy after she had been #1 for most of the year. He was just right below KSH this month, who obviously had a massive year. The month before he was above him.

It has obviously dipped from his peak a couple years ago and Ji Jun Hyun and Kim Yuna are freaking huge right now in the CF world, but it's nothing dire.

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

I think Ji Jun Hyun was cutting down her CF appearances on purpose but it looks like she has been doing more after "Man from the Star."

0
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

She pretty much everywhere right now, which is well deserved tbh. Kim Yuna is also pretty high up there. Suzy is as well. Everyone is pretty far below those three lol

0

I also give kudos to Lee Jun Ki for taking on challenging roles. Ditto for Yoo Ah In, who takes risks and works to expand his acting range.

Can't blame anyone for going the safe route though. As bad as Heirs was, it was a huge success in business terms. Ratings were high, SBS sold it to many countries, Kim Eun Sook got a hit teen drama under her belt, Lee Min Ho and Park Shin Hye won bunches of acting awards and are raking in truckloads of CF money and new fans from China.

That's true. LMH may not take too many risks with his image, but it's the biggest commercial hit of PSH's career and established her even more firmly as a leading lady. (and this is after she tried more unusual roles like Flower Boy Next Door, so it certainly looks good on her filmography)

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

lol what? LSG's CF likability is fine. He's not doing as many CFs nowadays because he doesn't want long term contracts and for the past few months his CFs are mostly on cable. He's been on that list for so long as well. Well past the trendy phase and into a real established CF star. And his standing is solidified a long time ago.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

Okay seriously?? 'Last ditch efforts' - it would have probably been a legitimate claim if he didn't just do Noonas Over Flowers that broke 10% in it's premiere or GFB that was one of the highest rated dramas last year along with being the most searched drama in one of Korea's biggest search engines. He was also the most searched actor.

My point being, there is absolutely zero reason his agency would try to make 'last ditch efforts to solidify his standing' because his standing has been solidified a long time ago and still is. All his dramas have had high ratings and hype. His song holds records as the longest at #1 in billboard. As for his CF rankings, he's been cutting off on those since he's preparing for MS. Even then, he hasn't been out of the top 10 in 5 years and is today - something no other actor could boast of.

As for commercialized projects, those are done by most top stars because it's brings success to them. Nothing wrong in choosing projects that give them accolades, awards and recognition. LMH, LSG, KSH are all extremely popular. So it's just a career choice and it's not a bad one either.

I think LSG is the most well rounded and hardworking talent of his generation. He's a successful musician, actor, and MC, and in the midst of doing all that he managed to graduate from college in 4 years. He has a totally clean public image. I saw him on Running Man once and was so impressed by his wit and sense of humor. I could see his MC skills. I realize now why they call him "Your mom's friend's son that your mom keeps comparing you to" (or something like that).

That is a beautiful poster. It feels both Korean and Spaghetti Western. I love it. Very atmospheric.

I don't watch sageuks typically but I might give this one a go.

Also man, the K-drama industry works fast. They were finalizing cast members not too long ago and now they're already filming. It always stuns me how quickly shows get cast, filmed and aired in Korea. (Of course the live-shoot system has a lot to do with that and that certainly has its issues.)

Even movies, for that matter, it's practically unheard of for a movie to take a year between casting and release, let alone the two years Hollywood takes.

Here, a movie gets announced and cast, and six months later it's out! Which is great for instant gratification of course.
