Odds and Ends: Anti-fuzz

javabeans: So this was a crappy week for me so I may have nothing to say in this post.

girlfriday: Aw. Hug?

javabeans: No, when I’m in a crappy mood I’d just want to break off your arms, ha. I’ve never been that girl you could force into smiling by pestering with jokes—they just make me angrier and then we’re in this spiral of badness.

girlfriday: But, your arms are tiny compared to my arms.

javabeans: Anger is very energizing. So what I’m saying is, you maybe don’t want to be the messenger in my case. You know in dramas where the wrist-grabbing is all romantic? I’d probably snap the guy’s wrist.

girlfriday: I think I might pay to see that.

javabeans: I think that might be a crime. We can’t both of us be in the clink at the same time. Who would bail me out?

girlfriday: Isn’t that what moms are for?

javabeans: I’m pretty sure mine would let me stay there to learn my lesson. No coddling for javabeans! This may be why I don’t know how to coddle anyone or -thing else. No fuzzy gene.

girlfriday: I don’t know, I’ve seen you snuggle your cat.

javabeans: But she doesn’t like it. I think that makes it okay. Wait, that sounds wrong.

girlfriday: And oddly like something a drama hero would say.

javabeans: …and we’re back to bad life lessons.

girlfriday: But dramaland is full of them!

javabeans: God I hope nobody takes dramas as learning tools for anything other than what lip gloss to wear or what brand cell phone to buy.

girlfriday: What, there are plenty of useful lessons, like how if you screw things up, the universe will send you back in time!

javabeans: To screw it up all over again?

girlfriday: Okay, fine, so it’s not a FOOLPROOF lesson. How about: Don’t give serial killers any good ideas?

javabeans: Yes, that should probably always be true.

girlfriday: And yet…

javabeans: Also, if the universe gives you the choice to cheat time, say no. Always no.

girlfriday: Or at least write down some lotto numbers, for crying out loud.

The best lesson dramas have given me is; good people have crappy life.

Can get anyone through a tough day thinking of how first-episode-of-kdrama like your life could be.

I would LOVE any drama to pieces if when a Chaebol (?) grabbed a girl's wrist she wrench his hand upwards in a quick motion and break his nose AND his arm.

Seriously.

Even if the drama went all stupid noble on me, had every member in the cast get amnesia--or ended with the main female lead picking the wrong guy, or neither guy, or her cat.

I would still love it forever for that one moment.

It happened! But I cant think of any drama right now, it's rare though, that the girl calls bs on the wrist-grabbing thing.

It's my new crack drama since Let's Eat and You From Another Star - it sneaks up on you and before you know it, you're hooked! Try the first 2 episodes and see :D It's got a nice OST too!

Coco's not quite in the same league as our Gue Bara (he deserves an acting award), but I'm a sucker for cute guys with kittens!

Please, let's stop talking about BOTC here because it'll put JB in an even worse mood. I gather it's a source of frustration for her because her inbox has been inundated with requests/demands that BOTC be recapped on DB. That makes me sad 'cause it's clear that JB is already swamped. Anyway, it's best to talk about BOTC in the Open Thread or on one of the sites that is recapping or squeecapping it.

0

Ow trust me anotheradict, it is the last drama that I want to get recapped... It's an easy watch, but not so good, I am not going to waste more words to it. Sorry JB!

0

In that case, I'll just clarify that that's the last thing on my mind - asking for BotC to be recapped on DB!

Since it's already being recapped (or, squeecapped) elsewhere, then I'd suggest that people can just Google and find it. Google is your friend!

0

Maybe a Series Review would be good, since it's a cliche soupey, light hearted drama which probably could be summarised as effectively then wading around each episode in the fluff

Its a good show and its goes from u lmbo? to being scared out of ur pants ? lol but then again don't take my word for it ? I keep callin Kang Ju...... Jeremy lol ?

I feel for you javabeans. I've been having a crappy week or two. I don't know if it is a seasonal thing but I've been so unmotivated to do anything. Work has been alright but school is draining me. Sometimes I just want to drop out and give up. I don't know what I want to do and its driving me batty...

some day i am going to throw a glass of water, I just know it. There will be no conscious thought. Just suddenly I will realize the person in front of me is wet and I am holding an empty glass. KDrama ... it seeps into your perception of what is normal (at least in kdramaland).

Omg yes I had a crappy week too, whats with my final exams next week :(
But somehow I still managed to cramp in my weekly dose of dramas (that includes Secret Affair, Full Sun, Empress Ki, Emergency Couple, Sly and Single Again, and Wonderful Days) :)
And thanks to the previous article (and photos) of Lee Seunggi and CSW, I'm now rewatching City Hall.
Ok, I think I'm screwed for finals.

Maybe I need exercise? Do I need to get out more? Or maybe it's my favorite drama getting me down? (sly and single again which you used as featured image)

The topic hits so close to home I feel down down down...

Well, I'm sending you what positive aura I have left, and continue to make dramabeans the splendid site it is!

nice winter we are having this spring ...

i had been pouting with cabin fever waiting for the first signs of green growth and cursing brown grass and dirty snow.

then i went for a walk, and the fresh air lifted my mood. i saw beauty in my neighbors garden statue or the smile of a woman taking down Christmas lights or the exuberance of a pair of black lab puppies out for some playtime and the loud chattering of birds.

yes, the skies are grey today, but every day we gat a bit more sunlight and seedlings are growing awaiting planting soon.

Thanks to dramas, I bought a Note 3 this week. God's Gift was the final push: when Lee BoYoung used the assistive light, aka built in flashlight, to check out a murderer's lair, I yelled, "Sold!"

Anyone get convinced to buy something via drama?

haha i think You From Another Star convinced alot of people to buy stuff, considering how everything Jeon Ji Hyun wore flew off the shelves, even when the price was in the thousands.

An MV made me covet a Samsung Galaxy S phone, which i've consistently upgraded to an S4. i never thought PPL worked but im a victim of it.

Luckily, I'll be immunized for a while since upcoming dramas will either have the S5 or the LG Pro 2 (already in CSL), and I'm happy with the Note 3 vs either of those. :-)

I may or may not have ordered some lipsticks and the nail ring cheon song yi wore (like evil jae kyungs) in the doctors office when she went cuckoo, just to commemorate my love for the drama.
And i downloaded line chat just to use cheon song yi/do min joon stickers.
To be honest, before this show, i never paid much attention to the product placement.
But now i'm eating chimaek like it's a staple.

I'm another PPL convert. When it was time to get my first smart phone, I knew it would be a Samsung.

I tried S4 then switched to Note 3 ... I like the larger screen. I've had about 2 weeks, still in the "how does this work" and downloading software and scratching my head how to integrate with the rest of my PC applications stage.

Julia, how are you managing with the autocorrect? I never struggled this much with my S3. I may have to download a keyboard app like Swiftkey, which I carefully avoided so far (but with 32gB...).

I was sold on Samsung like you through dramas. I liked them before, but somehow, through dramas, I'm now Samsung fangirl.

Just 'cause you're not as fuzzy as some people doesn't mean you lack the fuzzy gene-- your recaps are proof that you can be fuzzy. You may lack the coddling gene, or just never fully activated it, but so what? The world would be a sorry place if we all coddled one another all the time.

standing outside in the cold will make you sick.

i was raised by a mother who would holler that, if we tried to go outside without coats, etc.

a 2 year old child of a physician mother at my daughter's preschool heard me tell mika that, when they were running outside to play in the rain -- the little girl told me, "no, you can't get sick from being cold. you get sick from a virus."

needless to say, the little girl was caucasian.

loved seeing it played out in one of the first kdramas i watched -- i'm pointing at my laptop, nudging my (now 20) daughter, saying "SEE??? what'd i tell ya!"

was it Lee Min Ho in BOF? waiting outside for the girl?

And you can't do it all, and you're not the trolls' mom, so don't worry. :)

The main thing I learned from Korean dramas is do NOT drink soju - 97% of the time you will end up barfing on someone.

Drinking in moderation is not allowed in Korean dramas, you should know that by now. You have to at least drink enough to where you have to be piggybacked.

Puking on a guy will have the same effect, apparently!

I remember a line from The Truth About Cats and Dogs (movie with Uma Thurman) where they're talking about what guys will do for a pretty woman, including holding her hair back for her while she's puking. I wonder if it's true?

Time to call in Mythbusters, I think!

Life lessons from Kdrama:

1. Life is hard for everyone. Suck it up and don't whine so much.
2. Your success is dependent on how hard you work.
3. Be loyal to your friends, and help them out when they need you.
4. Love your family and friends even though they are flawed and drive you nuts on a regular basis.
5. Be respectful and grateful to your parents. Listen to their advice. Now that you are grown up, it's your turn to look after them.

So would I! I have a real obsession with hating wrist-grabs. I'm not-so-secretly hoping that in her upcoming Drama the awesome Lee Si Yeong will respond to a wrist grab by putting her boxing skills to use and laying the guy out cold. Until that happens, I'll keep hating this horrible trope.
