Su Ae joins Jang Hyuk in action thriller

Su Ae (Thousand Day Promise, Athena) has announced that her next project will bring her back to the big screen, in the virus-with-a-vengeance action blockbuster film Influenza (or Cold), starring Jang Hyuk. Drat, now I HAVE to watch this movie, even if it’s Contagion Redux.
Directing is Kim Sung-soo (Beat, There Is No Sun, The Warriors), and the setup is a fairly straightforward virus-disaster movie — a deadly strain of the cold virus ends up spreading like wildfire, and our leads have to race against time to find the cure. Jang Hyuk plays a firefighter and Su Ae a doctor who has to find the host as the disease spreads faster and wider. These movies invariably scare the life out of me, even though they always follow the same pattern. Though I suppose it’s because the pattern is always death and mayhem.
Su Ae is hands-down one of my favorite actresses, and I love that she always varies her projects to go from heavy melo fare to popcorn action to horror to rom-com. And though she was phenomenal in her award-winning performance in Thousand Day Promise, I’ll be happy to watch her in something less depressing (and yes, death and mayhem via virus WILL be less depressing than that drama, go figure).
The production plans to complete casting and head into shoots by May, but when they cast Jang Hyuk they said they’d start shooting in March, so I guess we’ll get there when we get there.

SWEET. This sounds like fun. My love for Jang Hyuk is new but intense since seeing him in Samurai High School. Although I avoided Thousand Day Promise like the plague, I'm sure Su Ae will be amazing.

Are you sure it's Samurai High School and not Volcano High? When you said Samurai High School, I had to search it up to make sure I didn't miss him in that Japanese drama. The only result I got was that he starred in 2001's Volcano High.

This sounds exactly like 2011 American Movie tittled "Contagion" starring Matt Damon, Jude Law, and Kate Winslet.

Sounds like it has big potential to be a blockbuster. Hopefully it does well and brings something new to the table instead of just rehashing preexisting ideas.

well, although I feel like I have seen this movie many times already, I'll be checking this out for the wonderful leading casts with the awesome acting chops. plus I like action thriller in general.
and whose to say Eye Candy and Good Acting can't go hand in hand . These two proves this. Love Su-Ae enough that I actually watched the tear jerker drama (drama was so so, but her performance was daebak).

OMG! I freakin love Soo Ae. She's like one of the rare actresses that can really really act. I'm so happy she's chosen this role along with smokin hot Jang Hyuk. happy happy!

I was a bit shocked at what I thought I read with this line:
"I love that she always varies her projects to go from heavy melo fare to popcorn action to horror to rom-com"
because my brain turned "popcorn" into porn!

Yay! I love this woman. I stuck with Thousand Day Promise, but that drama still leaves a bad memory. I wanted a beautiful bittersweet drama, but I got the feeling of hopelessness and depression instead from watching that drama, LOL!

You're right...the only good thing coming from that drama were the performances...Hers being the best, followed by her brother in the series. I also loved the noona-dongsaeng love, even when she was bitchy at times :(

hmm.... My thoughts, Su Ae was amazing, Kim Rae-won potential was wasted, he was good but didn't really have much of a role in the drama. Some nice performance from the side characters.
The drama itself had very little plot and was pretty depressing and boring at times. Yes, I did expect it to be sad or depressing going into the drama considering the premise we are dealing with, but at the end of the drama I felt no emotional payoff and just wondered "what, that's it?, what was show trying to tell us?, what was the point of making us watch 20 hours?" sigh
anyways, that's just my opinion. You could check out the recap first if you're interested.

Love Su Ae in pretty much anything I've ever seen her in - and yes, that includes ATHENA. Girl is kick-ass and always seems to have really good (and believable) chemistry with her leading men.
Jang Hyuk will be a good leading man for her proving he doesn't smile too often (it's weird looking).
As for the subject matter - **sigh**

Heee, we totally watched Outbreak in high school biology. I remember my teacher trying to bleep out the curse words by yelling, and always missing them by a few seconds and calling more attention to them.
We always said to let them swear, because if you can't swear when airborne ebola is about to eat the planet, where is the justice?
With that one, we read the Hot Zone, which is actually true, and makes it even scarier.

Drats. This means Jang Hyuk is not going to be in a drama until this movie is done shooting. Sigh. Can someone give the man a rom-com next please? Would be nice. He's pretty good at being funny. My opinion of course.

Oh these type of movies are scary! I remember Contagion and there were a couple more based on books by Michael Crichton for one that scared the living day lights out of me!
