Well, kind of. Remember my search for “in order that“? Paul’s way of praying? Right now I’m reading through a book by Jonathan Graf, called Praying Like Paul, Learning to Pray the Kingdom for Those You Love. Graf says that “in all his recorded prayers, nowhere do I see that [Paul] prayed for specific answers to everyday situations.” Instead he prayed “more for the process of growth in people’s lives than the end result.” This is it! Not so much whether or not Paul prayed for health issues, but whether he prayed for what Graf calls “the little answerables” at all. Here’s my prayer for you directly from Phil. 1:9-11: “I pray that your love may abound more and more in the knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Christ Jesus-to the glory and praise of God.”
Amen! Thank you for the reminder.
That passage is one of favorites to pray for people! Thanks for sharing it, Lynn.
You need to loan me this book sometime =)
