Emergency train tickets introduced in South India

rp_IMG_2383-300x3001.jpgFebruary 21 (TravelAndy): In order to facilitate emergency travel for common passengers, Indian Railways has introduced a special initiative which will cater to confirmation of tickets for any one in need.

The southern division of Indian Railways has started a helpline service, which will make emergency quota facility available to everyone, The Times of India said.

Though it is available for anyone in need, preference will be given especially to soldiers travelling at urgent notice, elderly, people who are unwell, solo women traveller, pregnant women, students travelling for interviews and children who need emergency assistance.

For the first time, Indian Railways have published contact numbers of officers, who would be in charge of scrutinising an emergency situation and then facilitating tickets for the passenger.

For every division, the senior divisional commercial manager will be the designated nodal officer of this special cell, who will  execute the requirements of a traveller in emergency.

Under this initiative, the special cell can be contacted to arrange for ambulance, wheel chairs and other emergency facilities.

The personal contact numbers of the nodal officers will be announced next week.
