India: Scrapping INR500, 1000 notes hit tourism

Logo squareNovember 13 (TravelAndy): The recent scrapping of INR500 and INR1000 notes by the Indian government has hit the tourism sector hard.

According to a report in The Hindu newapaper, several bookings to Dehradun in Uttarakhand state in north India were cancelled this weekend due to lack of cash in ATMs, said hotel owners.

A similar situation has cropped up in the Himachal Pradesh state. The entire sector of adventure tourism has been badly hit.

Paragliding and skiing in Solang valley, Manali, has been disrupted due to lack of tourists in the wake of the move that is being referred to as “demonitisation”.
