Country smells!

There are a couple of things that have been a constant presence of the camino since day 1 back in St Jean Pied de Port in France, 31 days ago now: Poppy flowers and the smell of cow manure. The flowers are lovely and I have hundreds of photos of them. The manure smell is quite frankly rotten and I’m over it! The smell of manure will forever remind me of the camino… smelly socks and dorm rooms would be a nicer smell to remember than this!!

I passed the 100 km marker and from that point on, the markers count down to Santiago which means it’s getting closer and closer but I still don’t want or feel ready for the journey to end. Apparently there’s a counsellor service set up in Santiago for pilgrims who don’t know how to go on with their lives once reaching Santiago, it sounds like a great idea! Most pilgrims feel like a Betty Ford clinic would be more beneficial though!

I walked 30 km today but stopped frequently to taste the delicacies of Galicia, smell the flowers and walk amongst goats and sheep. It’s incredible how your body can get used to distances you never before dreamt of walking daily.
