Bierschenke, Liverpool Street

Bierschenke, Liverpool Street
Between Liverpool Street and Monument lies the City of London, also known as the Square Mile it’s a pretty small area. I’ve worked in the City for nearly 5 years and food wise, in my opinion, it’s lacking a bit. There are some top restaurants here now, some of which are very much for a treat yo’self occasion and some I have been lucky enough to try. And then there are many a pub which all provide somewhere to grab a glass of wine but not really the nicest of places to stay for more than one and not much in between.

So, when I was invited to a recent Zomato meetup at Bierschenke, just behind Liverpool Street Station, I was very intrigued to try somewhere new in the area! Bierschenke is a Munich beer hall where they serve traditional Bavarian cuisine, including meats and sausages delivered three times from Germany!

You walk into a large space with wood panelled walls and a big bar, there is also a massive space downstairs which is where we were seated. We arrived on a Wednesday evening and the place was nicely full –lovely large tables and benches. It’s in the city so there’s a work crowd but the place feels really relaxed, and it’s definitely an informal dining and drinking experience.

They have a great range of beers on offer – I’ve already given the low down to the husband and told him he needs to get down here. We started with a Bierschenke Weibbier, a wheat beer and my favourite of the night and great with the giant pretzels.

We were served two of their platters on offer – the Reindle and Bierschenke. These included pork shank, meatloaf, a number of different sausages, red cabbage, sauerkraut, dumplings, schnitzels and chips. There was a lot of food. The pork shank was delicious! I loved that it came with red cabbage and dumplings – my favourite. All the food was so full of flavour and cooked well. No dry meat or dumplings and the cabbage and sauerkraut were melt-in-the mouth.

The desserts were pretty good too – FYI, this is not the place to come for a low-carb, low-cal meal. And hence why I left in a happy food coma. There were cream cheese pancakes, apple strudel and Beeramisu – their take on tiramisu. SO GOOD.

This a fun place to meet friends – the staff are friendly, the food is good and generous and they serve great beer.

Thank you Zomato and Bierschenke for having us, it was a great evening. Looking forward to making a return soon!

I have actually walked past Bierschenke a few times and wondered if it would be any good… looks like I need to hurry myself down there one evening for some German style fun!
