The U.S. women wrap up preparations for the 2016 Olympics with a game against Costa Rica at 8 p.m. CT tonight (July 22). It’s at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kan., the home field of Major League Soccer’s Sporting Kansas City.

The game is on ESPN.

Team USA’s first game at the Rio Olympics is against New Zealand on Aug. 3.

Here are five oddities, curiosities, or (possibly) interesting facts about the USA-Costa Rica match and its participants:

 

1.

Costa Rica and the United States have played 13 times. In the region, only Canada and Mexico have faced the Americans more frequently.

Team USA’s record in those 13 games: 13-0-0.

 

2.

The two last met on Feb. 10 in Frisco, Texas, in the 2016 Olympic qualifying tournament for North America, Central America, and the Caribbean.

The United States won 5-0. Alex Morgan’s goal just 12 seconds into the game is believed to be the earliest in the 31-year-history of the U.S. women’s team. (“Believed to be” because some scoresheets  and other records from the very early days of the USWNT are spotty.)

 

3.

They also played twice in the Americans’ Victory Tour, celebrating Team USA’s triumph in the 2015 World Cup.

The Americans won 8-0 in Pittsburgh on Aug. 16 and 7-2 in Chattanooga, Tenn., three days later.

 

4.

Costa Rica is ranked No. 29 in the world. The United States is, of course, No. 1.

 

5.

The Costa Rican is nicknamed “Las Ticas.”

Tica (tico in the masculine) is a common colloquial term for a person from Costa Rica.
