The Morgan Hill Freedom Fest 2014 organizers want to share your American immigrant story in 500 words or less. This year, they have announced their theme as “Destination America.” In celebration of that theme, they want to hear from Morgan Hill community members the stories involving the challenging, inspiring journeys families went through so they could eventually call America their home.

“Do you or your family boast a fascinating story on the journey of immigrating to America?” asked Jeff Dixon, president of Independence Day Celebrations, the nonprofit group that puts on various July 4 events in Morgan Hill each year. “As a melting pot of various cultures and ethnicities, most of us can reply with a resounding ‘yes!’”

The top three winners will win prizes but these haven’t been determined yet, according to contest organizer Frances Nance.

“IDC will provide the prizes,” she said. “We will have three prizes and the first-place (winner) will get about $500 value, second place about $300 value and third place about $200 value.”

“Tell IDC about your own captivating story,” Dixon said. “America is known as the ‘land of the free and home of the brave.’ Over the last few hundred years, many people have immigrated here to evade persecution, seek a better life, and enjoy political and religious freedoms. What is your story?”
